The San Diego Police Department has clear guidelines that every family should review. Here are a few critical reminders for your young riders:
* **Helmets are the Law:** If you are under 18, a helmet is mandatory. No exceptions. It is the single most effective way to prevent a traumatic brain injury.
* **Age Matters:** Class 3 E-Bikes—which can hit speeds of 28 mph—are restricted to riders aged 16 and older. Make sure your child is on a bike they can legally and physically handle.
* **Rules of the Road:** An E-Bike is not a toy; it’s a vehicle. That means stopping at all signs, signaling turns, and riding with the flow of traffic.
