Father’s Day is Sunday. If dad’s gift is still sitting around, today’s the day to get it shipped.

Ground shipping typically needs 3 to 5 days to get most places, so after today you’re looking at express rates.

Bring it in as-is. We’ll pack it, check carrier rates, and get it moving. And no, we won’t tell him it was sent last minute 😉

Most shipping advice is stuff you already know. Here’s the stuff that actually saves you money.

The big one: the box size can cost you more than what’s inside it. Carriers charge by space, not just weight, so a light item in a giant box gets billed like it’s heavy. Use the smallest box that still leaves room for a little padding.

Small and heavy, like books? A flat-rate box is usually your cheapest bet, since the price ignores the weight. Light and bulky tends to go cheaper by weight with FedEx or USPS ground.

Shipping something fragile? Give it two inches of cushion on every side and fill the empty space so nothing shifts around in there. The shifting is what breaks things, not the trip itself.

And two quick ones folks forget: get your label printed instead of handwriting it so the scanners read it right, and peel any old labels off a box you’re reusing. A leftover barcode can send your package to the wrong place entirely.

Save this for the next time you’ve got something to send.

Check out this time-lapse of an online seller trying to package a 1UP arcade game they sold on eBay.

Good news: it made it to the buyer undamaged.

Bad news: the box looked like it had been through a wrestling match by the time it arrived. The game was fine, but the presentation wasn’t, and they ended up with a poor rating because of it.

That’s the part a lot of sellers forget: packaging protects the item, but it also protects your reputation!

If you sell online, especially larger or awkward items, don’t guess your way through the packing job. The right box, padding, reinforcement, and clean presentation can make the difference between a happy buyer and a rating you wish you could erase.
