Stepping away from the office to grow stronger together.

Our Amaryllis team spent time at a castle conference center earlier this year. We focused on connection, collaboration, & building the kind of team culture that helps us better serve the families who trust us with their immigration & adoption journeys.

A little strategy, a lot of laughter, & a reminder that the best teams are built far beyond the conference room.

Meet Amaryllis Law paralegal Melanie Burton!đź‘‹

Originally from Northern Virginia, Melanie made the Roanoke Valley home after getting married & has now officially earned Salem “local” status after living here longer than anywhere else.

With more than 20 years of paralegal experience, she brings compassion, knowledge, & steady support to our adoption & Special Immigrant Juvenile Status cases.

A little bit about Melanie, when she’s not helping families, you’re likely to find her spending time with her kids, reading, or leveling up in a video game.

Big news for our Amaryllis Law family — we are officially expanding with a second office now open in Lynchburg‼️

What began in Salem as a mission to serve families through immigration & adoption law is now growing to reach even more clients across Central Virginia. We are incredibly grateful for the trust our community has placed in us & excited to continue offering compassionate, personalized legal support in both locations.

Two locations, one trusted team — and we’re just getting started.

Our attorneys don’t just practice the law — they help shape the conversation around it. 🏛️

Earlier this month, six of our attorneys attended the Federal Bar Association Immigration Law Conference in Arlington, Virginia, where our very own Mary Sirmans served as Conference Chair. Several of our attorneys also took the stage as panelists, sharing their expertise on the ever-evolving landscape of immigration law.

The momentum didn’t stop there. Attorney Jaime traveled to Santa Fe, New Mexico to attend the Academy of Adoption and Assisted Reproductive Technologies Attorneys conference. As a newly inducted fellow, Jaime had the incredible opportunity to connect with leading adoption attorneys from across the globe.

We are proud of our team’s commitment to staying at the forefront of the law. Our team is always learning, growing, and leading — because that’s what our clients deserve. 👏

A new development in asylum law is quietly impacting cases across the country—and many don’t even realize it’s happening. Our latest blog breaks down how Asylum Cooperative Agreements (ACAs) are being used by DHS to block asylum cases before they’re ever fully heard, often through motions that can end a case early in the process.

We walk through:
• What ACAs are and how they work
• How DHS is using them in immigration court
• What a “motion to pretermit” means for your case
• And most importantly, what you can do if this happens to you

If you or someone you know has a pending asylum case, this is critical information. Read the full breakdown on our website and know your options!

Client Alert: Stay Vigilant Against Scam Calls

We’ve been made aware of increasingly sophisticated scam calls targeting individuals with active legal matters.

These callers may appear credible — even referencing personal or case-related details. Please know: your security is our priority.

Here’s how to protect yourself:

-If something feels off, hang up immediately

-Call our office directly to verify the communication

-Do not share sensitive information over unexpected calls

Amaryllis Law only communicates through our main office phone number > (540) 387-1005. If we are reaching out to you, it will always come from that line.

We are here to protect you, both legally and personally.

For more information on this issue, you can review the Virginia State Bar alert linked in our bio.

Your case matters. Your safety does too.

One mistake on your immigration application can cost you months—or everything.

If you’re applying in 2026, here are the most common (and avoidable) mistakes:
• Weak or missing evidence – Applications aren’t just forms—they’re proof. Lack of supporting documents is one of the fastest ways to get denied.

• Ignoring deadlines or RFEs – Requests for Evidence (RFEs) have strict timelines. Miss it, and your case could be denied and closed.

• Using outdated forms – USCIS updates forms often. Submitting an old version can get your application rejected immediately.

• Not disclosing prior issues – Past denials, overstays, or arrests must be addressed properly—not hidden. Not giving full information can cause denials and future bars for your immigration journey.

• DIY when your case isn’t simple – Online advice isn’t strategy. Complex cases need a clear legal approach.
The truth? Most delays and denials aren’t random—they’re preventable.

If you want your application done right the first time, it starts with the right guidance.
