Florida voters will decide this November whether to dramatically expand the homestead property tax exemption ā€” from $50,000 up to $250,000. If it passes, anyone who establishes Florida residency after that December 31 cutoff gets stuck with the old, smaller exemption for five full years before qualifying for the full benefit.
