Dudensing Law secured a combined $3.5 million recovery for the family of a mother who died after developing severe, preventable pressure wounds at a California skilled nursing facility and under a hospice provider's care.

Despite being known to be at high risk, staff failed to reposition her or monitor her skin, and once a wound was found, the facility waited seventeen days to secure a recommended air mattress while it worsened. She passed away less than three months after admission.

Meet Aya Harel, an Incoming Associate Attorney based in the Dudensing Law Sacramento office.

Aya's path to plaintiff-side litigation grew out of her experience working in elder law, drafting life planning documents, and building strong relationships with clients. Wanting to stay involved in health-related law while also pursuing broader, structural impact, she found that Dudensing Law struck the perfect balance.

Aya says one of the biggest benefits of working at a smaller firm is the hands-on experience. She was trusted early on to take a first crack at motions and research assignments, and to see cases through multiple stages of litigation.

Dudensing Law secured an $8 million recovery for the family of a man who lost his leg after a California skilled nursing facility failed to monitor his known vascular disease.

Despite the facility's own care plan promising to watch for complications, staff never checked his pulses, skin color, or circulation even though he reported leg pain on at least 25 of his 28 days there. By the time staff responded to the emergency, his leg had lost blood flow and could not be saved.

Dudensing Law secured a $3 million recovery for the family of a man who died after becoming septic from a “large and obvious" facial infection that a California skilled nursing facility failed to document or address. Despite his loved one repeatedly warning staff about his fall risk, he suffered at least 10 falls, including one incident in which he was found unattended outside in 100-degree heat, bleeding.
