Receiving a request for a response from a professional licensing board can be stressful. One important question is: How much information should you provide?

The answer depends on the circumstances of the allegation, but one rule always applies: be truthful.

If you are required to submit a written response or participate in an interview with a board investigator, providing false or misleading information can create additional problems and potentially lead to further allegations.

If an allegation is false and can be disproven with documentation, supporting records may be important to your response. On the other hand, legitimate allegations may require a more careful and strategic response.

If you’re a nurse in North Carolina, you may have seen the term “unencumbered” when checking your nursing license status and wondered exactly what it means.

An unencumbered nursing license generally means your license is clear of restrictions, conditions, or other encumbrances imposed by the Board. For nurses who have gone through the reinstatement process, this can be an important indication that the Board has approved the reinstatement without placing additional restrictions on the license.
