ArtRoot

ArtRoot ArtRoot is a collaboration of artists and arts advocates who are determined to reinvigorate Racine, Wisconsin through the arts.

Our vision is transformative: Racine will be an arts activator that nurtures collaborative creative networks which sustain an inclusive, innovative and flourishing community. It is a tall order, but we think that by bringing together the people who drive the arts in and around Racine, starting with conversation and working together towards common goals, this bold future can become a reality.

Can you believe 50 individuals have submitted 26-word pieces for the 2026 Bus Poems contest to date? That’s more than double last year’s entrants! Kenosha/Racine Poets Laureate Mary Skillings, Nico Moore and Dr. Thomas Carr will have tough choices to make in judging this year.

For a chance to see your poetry on the RYDE Racine public transit fleet, visit thepoetrymovement.org to fill out the entry form before 11:59pm this Sunday, March 15.

Thanks also to ArtRoot, the Racine Arts Council, the Osborne-Scekic Family Foundation, and the City of Racine, Wisconsin Government transportation department for helping make this possible!

We have big news!
It is with great pleasure that we announce our 20th ArtRoot Writer-In-Residence: Jay Mollerskov!

Jay is both a writer and a musician. An active member of our local arts community, he teaches guitar, piano, and music composition along with organizing poetry and experimental music performances in Racine and Milwaukee. Jay is a graduate of UW-Milwaukee where he studied music composition and technology, as well as instrumental performance.

Jay hosts a bi-monthly poetry reading at Vintage & Modern Books in Racine and during his tenure as Writer-in-Residence, he hopes to encourage collaboration and creativity in our writing community. Watch for his weekly blog posts at racinewir.com.

Congratulations to Jay and a big thanks to our most recent ArtRoot Racine Writer-In-Residence, Christy Hoff!

The ArtRoot Writer-In-Residence program is a paid opportunity that spotlights our local literary artists and is supported by a generous grant from the Osborne and Scekic Family Foundation with assistance from the Racine Literacy Council.

What a beautiful November day for the unveiling of ArtRoot's Wall Poem #8 at 1236 13th Street, visible from Washington Avenue.

The Wall Poems of Racine is an ArtRoot project in collaboration with University of Wisconsin-Parkside and other community partners. The project celebrates local literary talent by pairing an excerpt from a poem written by a Racine poet with a design created by a student from Carey Watters’ advanced graphic design class at UW-Parkside.

Poet: Monica Thomas
Designer: Sophia Lefeber
