For many Maine families, the cost of long term care raises difficult questions about protecting a home and other assets. Last year, Barbara S. Schlichtman, shareholder, spoke with CBS 13 about how Maine's estate recovery process works and what families should consider when planning for nursing home or assisted living care. The concerns she discussed remain just as relevant today. If you or a family member is navigating long term care decisions, our trusts and estates team can help you understand your options and plan ahead.

With our expansion onto the 8th floor now complete, demolition is underway on the 9th floor. Members of our team joined Wright-Ryan Construction for a wall breaking to kick off the next phase of renovations at 200 Middle Street. Hard hats on and sledgehammers in hand, the team took the first swings to open up the space that will become updated conference and collaboration areas, with new technology and design choices that preserve elements of the firm's history in this building. More to come as the work progresses.

What makes a law firm worth trusting with the things that matter most? For us, it starts with listening. Our attorneys work closely with clients on the legal matters that shape their personal and professional lives, from business planning and real estate to estate planning and litigation. We take that responsibility seriously, and we believe the way we show up for our clients reflects who we are as a firm.

We are looking forward to having Natalie join us next year!

When Natalie Jump ’26 came to Maine Law, she thought her future was firmly rooted in environmental policy. But through experiences like the Rural Practice Clinic in Fort Kent, work with the Maine Law Review, and courtroom advocacy opportunities, she discovered a much broader vision of what it means to practice law.

“You get this sense that the law is known and predictable, but people are not,” Jump said. “That’s where the complexity of practicing lies.” After graduation, Jump will clerk at the Kennebec County Superior Court before joining Perkins Thompson as an associate.

Our team recently joined the Lewiston Public Library's Wild West Murder Mystery, a fundraiser benefiting the READy to Grow Campaign to renovate the children's department. The evening brought together community members for dinner, raffle prizes and a team competition to solve a fictional Western themed murder. Supporting initiatives that strengthen local institutions like our public libraries is one of the ways we stay connected to the people and places we call home.
