Alisa Schlundt has joined Hallett Whipple Weyrens as an associate attorney. She previously worked as a public defender in Georgia for seven years before relocating to Maine in 2022. Schlundt is a graduate of Florida State University and the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University.

Civil Rights Case Moving Forward

A Federal Court Judge ruled last week that claims against York County Corrections Officers for violating the civil rights of a resident can move forward to trial. It was a milestone moment in this case:

Brian Dunnigan is alleging York County Jail officers held him down and used a Taser on him repeatedly during a 2018 arrest, causing severe burns and emotional trauma.

This is a great article about the use of questionable breath testing machines to convict citizens of OUI/DUI offenses. The machines are cheap, quick and worst, unreliable. States use them because they are cheap and quick. The fact that they are unreliable is seldom mentioned.

Alcohol breath tests, a linchpin of the criminal justice system, are often unreliable, a Times investigation found.
