September is Su***de Awareness Month. At Doran Justice, we have unfortunately witnessed multiple instances where clients have been experiencing a moment of mental crisis, and dialed the su***de help line for help. This seems like an obvious and very accessible way to seek help. However, on numerous occasions, the person on the receiving end of those calls has escalated the situation unnecessarily, called the police or SWAT, and it resulted in felony charges to the person in the mental health crisis. It also resulted in unnecessary physical injury and property damage on occasion. In light of this, Doran Justice wants to use this month to bring light to other available resources if you or anyone you know are struggling with suicidal ideations.
