Not every electric bike is legally an “e-bike” under Arizona law.
If it doesn’t have fully operable pedals, exceeds 750 watts, or goes over the legal speed limits, it may legally be considered a motorcycle or motor-driven cycle — meaning registration, insurance, and a valid license may be required.
We’re seeing more riders (and parents) caught off guard by these laws as electric-powered vehicles become more popular across Arizona. Before riding on public streets, make sure you know where your vehicle legally falls.
