Divorce can change a family’s structure, but the responsibilities parents share continue as their children grow. Working together from the beginning on all areas of dispute, from asset division to parenting schedules, can help establish a better working relationship between parents in the years ahead.

Collaborative divorce gives parents a structured way to resolve disagreements outside of court while keeping their children’s needs at the center of the process. Rather than leaving unresolved issues for a judge to decide, parents remain directly involved in developing solutions that reflect their family’s needs and circumstances.

Domestic violence can take many forms, and it's not always visible. It is critically important to recognize abuse, believe those who speak about it, and ensure survivors know that support is available.

Supporting victims of domestic violence is an important part of our work at BKW Family Law. We represent individuals facing abuse and coercive behavior. We help them understand their legal options and assist them in seeking protection when needed and making decisions about what comes next for themselves and their families.

Abuse is never justified, and no one should face it alone. This month, we stand with survivors and reaffirm the importance of listening, speaking out, and refusing to normalize behavior that threatens another person’s safety or well-being.

Jackie DiColo recently attended the 2026 Philadelphia Bar Association Bench-Bar & Annual Conference. With perspectives from members of the federal and Pennsylvania judiciary and a range of continuing legal education programs, the conference fostered important conversations about the law and its practice.

Jackie was able to participate in a historical trolley and walking tour of Philadelphia and programming related to disability access, legal parentage, LGBTQ+ affairs, appellate practice, family law and artificial intelligence, mentoring and culture, contributions to women’s rights (a program that was standing room only), and current constitutional issues.

We’re glad Jackie had the chance to spend time with members of Philadelphia’s legal community and bring those experiences back to her work here at BKW.

Disagreements about a child’s education can become more complex when an IEP or other special education services are involved. Determining the appropriate evaluations, services, or educational placement can raise an important question for parents: who has the right to decide?

The answer often begins with the existing custody order, which may give one or both parents the right to make major decisions about their child’s education.
