🌟 New Pro Bono Reporting Requirement Begins in 2026 🌟

Starting in 2026, all active California attorneys will be required to report their annual pro bono hours under Assembly Bill 2505. While mandatory reporting begins next year, the State Bar will invite lawyers to voluntarily report 2024 hours during the 2025 billing cycle.

Under Business & Professions Code §6073.1(c), pro bono work includes providing legal services without expectation of compensation to:
• Individuals who are indigent
• Charitable, religious, civil, community, governmental, or educational organizations serving people of limited means
• Organizations seeking legal support to advance their mission

For many in our profession, pro bono service is more than an obligation—it’s a meaningful way to uplift communities, expand access to justice, and live out the values of the legal profession.
