Today we were set for trial on a complicated case. The state listed 2 different experts and had 3 additional witnesses lined up.

The problem is that the state’s expert’s didn’t align on the facts resulting in the case being dropped on the verge of trial.

Ever wonder what actually happens in your local court system?

We pulled 15,000+ records from Orange County (just one week) and turned them into a 2.5-minute data story.

Some findings that surprised us:

🗓️ THURSDAY = SPEEDING TICKET DAY
1,500 speeding tickets analyzed, and Thursday was the peak. Why? Enforcement patterns. Data doesn't lie.

🍻 THE DUI PATTERN
Saturday-Monday accounts for 61% of DUI arrests (24 out of 39 cases). Orlando nightlife + weekend activities = predictable spikes. But Monday was higher than expected—weekend decisions catching up.

⚡ EXTREME CASES
• 120 mph in a 45 mph zone (criminal speeding)
• 50-year sentence for road rage murder
• Age range: 18 to 78 years old

📊 THE SYSTEM AT SCALE
15,000 records in one week = 2,142 cases per day. Traffic violations, civil cases, criminal charges—all moving through Orange County's courts simultaneously.

Behind every number is a real person, a real case, and real consequences.

🎯 Interactive challenge at 1:50: Can you identify who's most intoxicated by looking at their eyes? (We used real mugshots from the highest BAC arrests.)

This is what court data looks like when you visualize it. More episodes coming soon.

What patterns would you want us to analyze next? Drop ideas in the comments. ⬇️

Florida's Officer Jason Raynor Act: What It Means for Your Right to Resist an Unlawful Arrest

For over a century, Florida law allowed citizens to resist an unlawful arrest without using force. That's about to change.

The Officer Jason Raynor Act (HB 17/SB 156) is moving through the Legislature. If passed, it will make resisting ANY arrest a crime - even if the arrest itself is illegal. The only defense? Proving the officer acted in "bad faith." That's an extremely high bar.

What this means for you: Comply first, challenge later. Your remedy will be in the courtroom, not on the street.
