Welcome all of our 2026 Summer Associates at Koley Jessen. We're excited to have you with us.

It’s officially summer at Koley Jessen. ☀️ Yesterday, we welcomed 28 law students from 10 law schools across the country to launch our 2026 Summer Associate Program — our largest class to date.

We’re excited for all of the learning, collaboration, relationships, and fun the summer will bring. More importantly, we’re proud these students chose our firm as a place to develop their skills, gain meaningful experience, and begin shaping their early careers.

Over the next few months, this group will work alongside attorneys across our practice areas, build connections with one another, and continue discovering the kind of lawyers they hope to become. We’re excited to play a part in that journey.

When clients undertake their estate planning they must decide who they will appoint to serve in certain "fiduciary" roles. These roles include the personal representative (or executor) in the client’s Will, the trustee of the client’s Trust, the "agent" under the client's Power of Attorney, and for those clients with minor children, the guardian for these children. Clients should select a person or entity to serve in a fiduciary role only if the client has the highest confidence in the prospective fiduciary's competence and integrity.

Trusts can be tailored to accomplish many goals. I had a client who wanted to establish a Trust for the purpose of owning his cabin after death. Both for sentimental reasons and to ensure it was available to use by his children. The Trust is also the beneficiary under several life insurance policies so there will be sufficient funds to pay for future expenses related to the cabin such as maintenance, insurance, real estate taxes etc.
