Today is World Mental Health Day.

Filing a homeowners insurance claim after a wildfire? What you document now can make a big difference later.

Once it's safe to return, capture these before cleanup begins:

Photos and video of all damage, inside and out
A room-by-room inventory of everything lost or damaged
Receipts for temporary housing, meals, repairs, and essentials
Copies of every communication with your insurance company, including dates and names

It's also a good idea to request a complete copy of your policy in writing so you know exactly what's covered.

In the news: Kantor & Kantor has announced a new lawsuit that could matter to thousands of people denied UnitedHealthcare mental health or addiction coverage.

The federal case, J.B. v. United Behavioral Health, alleges that UBH (also known as Optum Behavioral Health) used its own internal rulebook to deny residential and outpatient treatment between 2011 and 2017, even when patients’ doctors said they needed it.

Here’s what you should know. A federal court has already found that UBH’s guidelines from those years did not match accepted medical standards. After an appeal, though, the original class action can no longer pay people back, so many people now need to act on their own. The legal pause on filing deadlines ended July 30, 2026.
