Do you know how good it feels to know your work as an artist is protected, and to just... go on? ๐Ÿ’ซ

No second guessing who owns the piece you just poured yourself into. No fine print you don't understand. Just create, collaborate, license, sell, and move forward.

That kind of freedom isn't luck. It's built.

Form the right company. Get the right contracts. Ownership clauses. Assignment terms. Licensing rights. Portfolio rights. Joint ownership agreements. These aren't just legal words, they're what decide who controls your work, who profits from it, and what happens to it after it leaves your hands.

Know your work is protected. Then just go on. ๐ŸŽจโš–๏ธ

We've got the legal side. You keep creating. โœจ

Who actually owns your art once someone else pays for it? ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ

The answer isn't automatic, it's written into the contract. Without the right ownership clause, you could lose control of your own work, even after it's delivered and paid for.

Same goes for collaborations. Without a joint ownership clause, disputes over who profits from or controls the work can show up long after the project is done.

Vintage blazer. Pink hair. Walking into a law office that has my name on the door. ๐Ÿ’—

Being unique isn't something you save for the weekend, it's how you show up everywhere, even in a profession that tells you to blend in.

Your style, your voice, your work: they don't have to look like everyone else's to be taken seriously. In fact, that's usually what makes people remember you.

Same goes for your art, your brand, your business. Don't shrink it to fit a mold. Protect it, build it, and let it look like you. โœจ

There's a difference between a handshake and a contract.

Anyone can make a promise. Anyone can say "we're good, trust me." Most business relationships start exactly that way, on good faith and good intentions. And most of the time, that's fine, until it isn't.

Contracts aren't only for lawyers. They're for artists and creatives too. The industry has a reputation for it, deals made on a handshake, agreements that only ever existed as a conversation. And most of the time, nothing goes wrong, until the work takes off and suddenly everyone remembers the deal differently.

The artists with long, lasting careers have made a choice most people skip: they put it in writing. Not because they expect the worst. Because they understand that intentions change, memories fade, and people walk away, and when they do, the only thing left standing is what's on paper.

That's not distrust. That's design with intent, and it's the difference between a career that survives a disagreement and one that doesn't.

Here's the part most people skip: a contract isn't there for when things go right. It's there for when they don't. The collaborator who claims more credit than they earned. The label that doesn't pay out. The work you thought was yours.

Without an agreement, there's no clean answer, just a fight over who's right.

Protect what you're building before you need to prove it was yours.

๐Ÿ“Œ Save this for your next business decision.

There's a difference between being seen and being remembered.

Anyone can post. Anyone can show up. Most brands do exactly that and vanish the second the scroll continues. Nothing about them cuts through. Nothing about them stays.

The ones who stay have made a choice most businesses never make: they picked one thing and made it unmistakably theirs. Not a whole moodboard. Not five fonts and a rotating palette. One mark. Sharp enough to recognize from a glance, consistent enough to survive a thousand repetitions.

That's not luck. That's design with intent, and it's the difference between a brand people scroll past and a brand people point at and say, "I know exactly who that is."

Here's the part most people skip: once that mark is truly yours, it's worth defending. A trademark isn't paperwork for big corporations. It's a line drawn around the thing that makes you "you," so no one else gets to wear it.

Own your mark before someone else borrows it.

๐Ÿ“Œ Save this for your next brand review.

I've sat across from too many artists and creatives who thought their brand was protected, until it wasn't. ๐Ÿ’ธ

You pour everything into building your name. Your logo. Your creative identity. And then one day you find out someone else has been using it, or worse, they trademarked it before you did. And now? You're the one who has to stop.

Here's the truth nobody tells you: using your name is NOT the same as owning it. Legally, whoever files first wins. Not whoever worked hardest. Not whoever built it from the ground up. Whoever. Filed. First. โšก

At Yao Law Group, protecting artists and creatives is what we do. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

Where there is darkness, a light, weak or powerful, will always give us hope. Hope to try, hope to persevere, and hope to change. ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ One of the most powerful pieces of artwork by Obey Giant not only became a cultural phenomenon but also changed the heart of politics and how we feel about politicians. He immortalized one of the greatest presidents, President Obama, and this will forever be a light when politics gets dark. ๐ŸŒŸ Art has always been the mirror of our times, and this image became the mirror of a generation. โœŠ๐Ÿพ President Obama gave us hope, and Obey Giant gave us art. Two of the most important catalysts for change, forever married in the collective consciousness. Some things transcend a moment. This is one of them. ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Let me tell you about a content creator who spent weeks filming, editing, and delivering incredible work for a brand, only to watch them turn it into a paid ad campaign without a single extra dollar sent her way. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

She had no contract. So legally? There was nothing she could do.

Here's what most people don't realize: content creators aren't just influencers posting selfies. So many of you are out here doing serious behind-the-scenes work for businesses, brand videos, reels, full campaigns, and getting none of the legal protection you deserve.

Your creativity is an asset. Your LLC is your shield. And a solid services agreement? That's what ties it all together.

Swipe through to learn exactly what needs to be in your contract before you work with another client. ๐Ÿ‘‰

And if you're not sure where to start, that's literally what I'm here for. Book a consultation and let's get you protected.

They called it Rising Star. I call it just getting started. โญ๏ธ

Humbled and fired up to share that I've been named to the 2026 Super Lawyers Rising Stars list for New York Metro!! This award belongs to every client who trusted me with something that mattered deeply to them.

Because here's the thing, nobody rises alone. Every case, every late strategy session, every hard conversation I've had on behalf of my clients poured into this moment. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

To the creatives, artists, and creators out there, your work deserves to be protected by someone who is fully invested in your success. That's the standard I hold myself to every single day.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. We're just warming up. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ
