FLA. MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR STOLEN CHECK SCHEME IN MYRTLE BEACH

CONWAY, SOUTH CAROLINA – Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson announced that on Monday, June 15, 2026, a Florida man pleaded guilty to a stolen check scheme that occurred last year in Myrtle Beach.

Willie Bernard Perry, 25, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., pleaded guilty Monday, June 15, 2026, to receiving stolen goods with a value of $10,000 or more, conspiracy, and three counts of third or subsequent offense of receiving stolen goods, said George DeBusk, the senior assistant solicitor who prosecuted the case for the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

The Honorable Circuit Court Judge Alex Hyman presided over Monday’s hearing and sentenced Perry to seven years in prison on each of the receiving stolen goods counts and five years in prison for the conspiracy charge. All sentences will run concurrently.

Perry faced up to 10 years in prison for the stolen goods charges and was sentenced to the maximum for the conspiracy charge. As part of Perry’s guilty plea in the case, 105 warrants were dismissed in the case involving Perry.

Myrtle Beach Police Department officers learned that more than 1,200 stolen checks with a combined value of more than $2 million were found in July 2025 in Myrtle Beach. The men were initially arrested over ma*****na use outside a Myrtle Beach motel.

Charges remain pending for Perry’s co-defendant, Devonte Owen Dawkins.

“This was one of the largest stolen check investigations in Horry County,” DeBusk said. “We are happy this defendant admitted his guilt and took responsibility for his role in the scheme."
