It's the latest SCAM - SC DMV doesn't text drivers.

Our clients have been receiving scam texts like this:

South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
UNPAID TRAFFIC FINE NOTICE
Our records show that you have unpaid traffic fines that require prompt payment.
To access your citation and complete payment, visit the official DMV website: (it's a scam lookalike site)
The payment deadline is March 23, 2026, and payment processing will take place on March 24, 2026.
Failure to respond within the specified time period may result in:
• Additional penalties imposed by the court
• Possible vehicle registration suspension or license revocation
• Failure to comply could lead to additional legal action or court involvement

While resorting to a firearm should always be a last resort, this new case provides clarity on the law of self-defense in South Carolina. Regular training is essential. Organizations such as the USCCA and NRA offer local classes to help individuals stay current on the law and tactics of fi****ms in self-defense.

By applying the law as written, the Court expanded the reach of one of America’s most permissive statutes.

Heard about the new DUI law? SC's recently amended DUI Ignition Interlock Device (IID) law goes into effect on May 19, 2024. SC Statute § 56-5-2941 will now require you to install an IID on your vehicle(s) on any 1st offense criminal DUI conviction, regardless of the BAC level. Also, even if you are not convicted of DUI, you still will be required to get the IID if your license was suspended at time of arrest for refusing to take an alcohol test or for registering an illegal level of alcohol and the "implied consent" suspension is upheld at a DMV hearing. So, there are now two separate and independant ways (administrative DMV hearing & criminal court) in which you may be required to get an IID to maintain a license to drive. The DMV hearings usually take place well before a DUI jury trial in criminal court.
