Attorneys Michael Levine and Gary Fox are representing the parents of Ryan Costello, a 23-year-old minor league baseball player who died from Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome. According to the lawsuit, his cardiac condition was identified by the Minnesota Twins' team physician during a spring training clearance evaluation, but it was never disclosed to Ryan, and he was never referred for care.

Our team has now secured a second appellate victory in the matter, allowing the case to move forward toward trial. As Attorney Levine argued, "The overwhelming issue here is when a doctor comes to this state, commits malpractice in this state on a Florida resident, Florida law applies."

"This is a doctor who came down here as part of his work, performed 40 pre-clearance evaluations, one of which was on Ryan Costello, committed malpractice here in Florida, the only place their relationship existed, and now he is trying to escape liability by imposing another state statute."

We are committed to fighting for the answers and accountability that Ryan's family deserves.

Jack Fleischaker, a freshman from Overland Park, has died after a fall from a window at the Sigma Chi house at Kansas State. Riley County police say there is no suspicion of foul play, but the incident might be alcohol-related. The same national fraternity had its University of Kansas chapter shut down for hazing in 2022—context that will keep this incident close to scrutiny in the weeks ahead.

A family’s Florida vacation took a devastating turn when a grill at their rental home exploded, leaving one guest with severe burn injuries. We are working to understand how this could have happened, including whether the property owner, management company, grill or propane tank manufacturer, or third-party maintenance vendors are responsible. Injuries like these are devastating physically, emotionally, and financially. We will find answers for this family and hold the responsible parties accountable.

We are representing multiple families following a fatal apartment fire in Smyrna, Georgia. Three people lost their lives, and others suffered severe burn injuries. STFBC, alongside Brumer & Brumer, is investigating the cause of the February fire, including whether appropriate safety systems were in place and why the fire was able to spread. “Our clients and their family have been through unimaginable pain and grief,” said Attorney Michael Levine. “Together with Brumer & Brumer, we are committed to determining what happened and holding those responsible accountable.”

Three lives lost, including two children. STFBC and Brumer & Brumer have been retained to investigate the cause of a devastating apartment fire in Smyrna, Georgia—and whether it could have been prevented.

Attorney David Bianchi accepted his Lifetime Achievement honor from Daily Business Review at the Florida Legal Awards. Over more than four decades, David has helped change laws, hold powerful institutions accountable, and fight for families facing some of the most complex cases in the country.

In his remarks, he reflected on the work that continues to drive him:

"I've spent many decades trying to save young men from fraternity hazing. Since 2000, over 100 college freshmen have died from hazing in the United States. I feel like we're on the side of the angels. They should not be dying from fraternity hazing in 2026, but they are. There are more laws now than ever, but the problem continues. So the fight will continue."

STFBC Partner, Dax Bello, spoke with students at St. Thomas University College of Law about leadership alongside Javier Ley-Soto and Jorge Fors. His message was straightforward: do the work, build real relationships, and protect your reputation. Or, as he told the room, “Don’t sell your soul for a seat at someone else’s table. Be yourself, do the work, and build something real.” STFBC was glad to be part of the discussion.

Law enforcement blamed our client for a crash that left her critically injured. But their investigation missed key facts. The driver who hit her was traveling more than 80 mph in a 35 mph zone. After a thorough independent investigation, STFBC attorney Michael Levine, alongside co-counsel Mike Crary, secured a $4.35 million settlement. "This result is a testament to our firm's model," Levine said. "We take on a limited number of cases and turn over every stone for the benefit of our clients."

Law enforcement blamed our client for the crash. Our investigation told a different story. STFBC secured $4.35 million for a critically injured woman after uncovering what police missed.

When someone is hurt or killed on a job site, most people assume it’s only a workers’ compensation case. However, workplace accidents often involve more than just the employer. In a new Daily Business Review article, Attorney Michael Levine and Michal Meiler break down why work accident cases are far more complex than most people realize. From equipment that may have been negligently maintained to insurance coverage that's often overlooked, the full picture matters when it comes to holding the right people and companies accountable.

STFBC partner Michael Levine was published in the Daily Business Review on a topic that matters for anyone injured on the job in Florida. Here's what the article covers and why it's relevant.
