Most Miami intersection cases come down to one question: "What was the light doing?"
And the proof can vanish fast, cars get moved, cones get relocated, and nearby video can be overwritten.
If you're in a T‑bone, left‑turn crash, rideshare collision, or hit‑and‑run at an intersection, here's a different way to think about it: build a quick "evidence checklist" while you wait for help (only if it's safe).
1) Get out of harm's way + get evaluated
Call 911. If you can move to a safer spot, do it. And don't skip medical care, many injuries show up later, and early documentation matters.
2) Capture the "signal story," not just the cars
Use your phone to grab what controls traffic at that moment:
• Which signal head applies to your lane
• Left‑turn arrows / protected vs. unprotected turn setup
• Pedestrian signals and countdown timers
• Stop bars, lane arrows, yield signs, "No Turn on Red," etc.
Those details are often the difference between 20% fault and 0%.
3) Mark where everyone started and ended
Quick photos of vehicle resting positions, debris, and any skid marks, then one wider shot showing the approach lanes. If cars must be moved, your photos become the "before" snapshot.
4) Write down the witnesses you'll never find again
People leave. Get names + numbers, and note where they were standing (corner, bus stop, inside a store).
5) Identify cameras immediately
Look for corner businesses, parking garages, condo entrances, transit buses, and intersection cameras. Write the exact address/business name, many systems auto-delete within a few days.
6) Keep the conversation minimal at the scene
Be polite, cooperate with police, exchange information, but avoid debating blame. Florida's comparative fault rules mean offhand statements can reduce what you recover.
One practical tip: Record a quick voice memo right after, time, direction you were traveling, which lane, what the light/arrow showed, and anything unusual (construction, blocked sign, heavy rain).
