June’s First Wednesday Wine Group at KTT provided an opportunity to welcome the next generation of legal professionals. Summer associates, law clerks, and interns spent the evening connecting with attorneys and judges, building relationships, and enjoying great conversation. Thank you to John Kozyak, Katherine Mitchell, Rasheed K. Nader and Kenneth Hartmann, and everyone who helped make the evening a success.

John Kozyak, co-founder of Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton, recently attended the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Florida Association of Women Lawyer’s scholarship awards reception, with one of his mentees, Taisha Saintil. John and his wife sponsor an award each year and Taisha was this year’s recipient. Taisha graduated from the Florida International University College of Law and has accepted a position with the Broward County State Attorneys Office. She previously received a scholarship from the Kozyak Summer Fellowship Fund.

But there’s more: KTT law clerk and future associate, Lezah Richardson, also received the inaugural MDFAWL scholarship honoring legal legend, Bob Josefsberg. Bob was a mentor to hundreds, if not thousands of lawyers, and died way too early last summer. Bob was a good friend of the firm and a mentor to numerous KTT attorneys, including John Kozyak. While working at KTT, Lezah learned how important Bob was to the community, the firm, and many of its lawyers.

Karen Ladis, the Director of Miami-Dade Legal Aid/ Put Something Back, and her brother, David Josefsberg, a partner at Century Risk Advisors, represented the Josefsberg family at the event. They told John that they and their family did not know of this connection when they selected Lezah. You can imagine how Lezah felt when she learned she was receiving an award to honor Bob. Her proud parents were with her at the awards ceremony. What a special moment for Lezah, the Josefsberg family, and all of us here at KTT.

We are excited to welcome Lezah back as an attorney at KTT in the Fall, where she—like all of us—will continue to honor Bob’s memory. Congratulations, Lezah!

As South Florida courts issue new AI disclosure requirements, the media turn to KTT Managing Partner Jorge Piedra for his perspectives. The collaboration between the two chief judges brings "greater uniformity to the patchwork of administrative orders governing the use of AI," Jorge told the Daily Business Review. "As an attorney who practices throughout Florida, it can be difficult and time-consuming to keep track of the varying certification requirements across circuits — and even among divisions within the same circuit. I hope the rest of the state follows Chief Judge Ariana Fajardo’s lead.”

The chief judge for a third largest judicial circuit in South Florida told Law.com Wednesday that his court is also reviewing its administrative order on AI use with an eye on uniformity.

When a court denied class certification, attorneys at Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton pivoted—bringing together 86 plaintiffs in a single complaint to move their clients’ claims forward. This rare approach allowed homeowners to proceed collectively despite the absence of class status, demonstrating the power of strategic thinking in complex litigation. As highlighted by Law.com, the team’s solution underscores the importance of adaptability when facing procedural hurdles. The case involves claims by homeowners near the Dania Beach Clean Energy Center, who allege ongoing disruptions affecting their property use, quality of life, and property values. By securing approval to proceed with a unified complaint, the firm helped ensure their clients’ voices could be heard together.

The move—to coalesce nearly 90 individuals in a single action without class status—is rare.
