Sometimes you just need a groove. As I am writing this, I’m listening to the rain as it comes down, and thinking about the week it has been. I just have this need to feel transported, taken somewhere that feels free, and chill. I am all about this song today, it’s just perfect.

***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***

This office represents Jeshaud Washington of McAlester, Ok. On the evening of June 5th, Mr. Washington was attacked by two individuals at Rotary Park in McAlester. He defended himself.

After the incident occurred, Mr. Washington went to the McAlester Police Department to make a statement regarding what occurred. Before entering the station, his mother advised him that she had been able to reach Mr. Wagner and that he could be present when Jeshaud spoke with law enforcement.

Shortly, after that call, Mr. Washington met with Brecken at our office just blocks from the police station. From there, Mr. Wagner notified the police department and waited for their arrival, and the arrival of any other law enforcement agencies that may be involved.

When law enforcement arrived, Mr. Wagner informed them that Mr. Washington was willing to make a full and complete statement and answer their questions. Due to the late hour, it was after midnight, and due to some family obligations out of state in the upcoming days, Mr. Wagner asked if they could sit for that interview the following Tuesday when he expected to return. Mr. Wagner further offered to allow the officers to take any physical evidence in the form of gunshot residue from Mr. Washington that night to aid in their investigation.

At one point the officers advised Mr. Wagner that they were going to arrest Mr. Washington, and Mr. Washington exited the office and went into their custody without any incident.

Within hours, OSBI released a press statement noting that Mr. Washington had been “arrested and booked,” but left out his cooperation, willingness to make a full and complete statement, and surrender. Despite OSBI’s choice to present a false and misleading narrative early on, Mr. Wagner and Mr. Washington maintained their commitment to sit for a full and complete statement with OSBI, as well as share information, statements, and evidence that our office had received since this occurred.

That meeting occurred on Tuesday. Mr. Washington explained how he acted in self-defense. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr. Wagner shared some information with OSBI and discussed the large amount of witness statements, and potential evidence that was still in the process of being collected.

The news of the filing of a felony Information late yesterday afternoon was a surprise to our office and something we had to find out through media sources as we were not privy to the basic courtesy of any notice. It is also a complete surprise given how much information and evidence we know has not been collected that supports Mr. Washington’s claims of self-defense.

It is unfortunate that the political environment has infected our criminal justice system. Thank God we have the American Jury System as a check that exists on the American Justice System and the government that controls it. We look forward to telling Jeshaud’s story to a jury. Just regular folks that will examine the evidence through a lens of impartiality, rather than to just search for something that supports a ready-made conclusion or makes for a flashy headline.

I don’t know about you guys, but this week has been something else. From the national news, to the state news, to the local gossip, it just seems like the whole world is upside down and nothing makes much sense. I’m so tired of stupid political ads on TV, that I’m actually missing the over abundance of pharmaceutical commercials these greasy, lying politicians have pushed out.

Lord, help me! Or, at least Charlie Worsham can, and that’s what I’m going with this morning. This song never fails to make me smile. Here’s to the weekend, and let’s all hope for a great week, next week. Love and peace.

SONG IN YOUR SOUL FRIDAY

Love comes in so many forms, and live songs do to. I have been listening to one of my favorite movie soundtracks from the 90’s, The Commitments. The movie is about an ambitious young music producer that puts together a band in Ireland. What makes the band and the movie so good is that this band of young people perform American soul hits from the 50s and 60s. It’s a great movie and you should definitely check it out.

The film honors so many amazing soul artists like Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, and more. The song I need to hear this morning is Percy Sledge’s ode to forbidden love. God, I love this song. I want to share that song as performed by the cast.

Sometimes I just need a driving tune. I drive a lot, and with the rise in gas prices I am even more in need of a distraction. BRECKEN AND BLAKE WERE ON A NATIONAL PODCAST!

Both Brecken and Blake are graduates of the Trial Lawyers College. The Trial Lawyers College is an organization that was started several years ago in the mountains of Wyoming. Lawyers from across the United States, and some from abroad, come to the College’s programs every year to learn how to better represent their clients and be better human beings in general. It has been more than ten years since both guys attended and completed the college, and they have continued to be associated with it ever since. Brecken is even a member of the faculty.

The guys were asked if they would participate in podcast for the college, and the link below will take you to that interview. Although the podcast is really meant to be geared toward lawyers, we have decided to share it here because the guys talk so much about their own experiences practicing law, and what it is like to do that here in Southeast Oklahoma. If you have ever wondered what it is that drives Brecken and Blake to do what they do, and their own outlook on the profession, you’re going to enjoy this podcast.

BRECKEN IS A FEATURED SPEAKER THIS SUMMER IN MUSIC CITY!

Brecken will be one of the guest presenters at the 2026 Summer Session of the National College of DUI Defense. The theme of this session is "DUI Trials Unleashed: From Voir Dire to Victory.

Mr. Wagner has been a member of the NCDD for a few years now, and it is an incredible honor for him to be invited to share his knowledge with other dedicated defense attorneys from across the U.S. The NCDD is the largest organization of DUI defense attorneys in the country, and the seminars that it puts on are well-renowned in the criminal defense world.

We are proud of Brecken, and know that he will represent Southeast Oklahoma well in Music City.

And how about that picture? Yes, Brecken once had hair.
