Caring for Everyone Starts with Caring for Yourself

Beginning on Mother’s Day, Women’s Health Week encourages women to prioritize both their physical and mental health. This year’s theme, “Prevention, Innovation, and Impact: A New Era in Women’s Health,” highlights the importance of proactive care, early detection, and advancements in areas such as hormonal health and disease prevention.

It’s also a meaningful reminder that caring for your health includes planning ahead and making sure your voice is heard.

So many women spend their lives caring for others, children, parents, spouses, and friends, often placing their own needs last. Taking the time to create or update an Advance Healthcare Directive and think through long-term care planning is an important way to care for yourself and the people who may one day need to make decisions on your behalf.

At Widlast Legal, we help women put their wishes into writing, so their values, preferences, and healthcare choices are clearly understood during difficult moments. These conversations are deeply personal, but they can provide clarity and guidance for loved ones when it matters most.

If you’ve been considering updating your healthcare directive or starting conversations about future care planning, Women’s Health Week is a valuable opportunity to take that first step.

She sat across from our conference table with a quiet certainty that filled the room.

She wasn't there because something was wrong. She was there because she'd decided that love deserved a plan.

"I want my children to be able to grieve me," she said, "not be overwhelmed by my lack of planning."

That one sentence has stayed with us for years because it captures what legacy planning really is. It's not about preparing for the worst. It's about protecting what matters most.

Every day, we work with mothers who are building something bigger than a document. They're building certainty for the people they love. They're making sure that their wishes are honored, their children are provided for, and their family never has to guess.

This Mother's Day, we honor those women, the ones who turn love into action:
• The mother who updates her trust every time her family grows
• The grandmother who ensures her story and her assets reach the right hands
• The young mom who walks through our door and says, "I'm ready to start"

Legacy planning isn't something reserved for later. It's one of the most powerful things a mother can do right now. A proper estate plan protects her voice, her values, and her family's future, across every generation that follows.

The mothers we serve don't do this because they're afraid. They do it because they love deeply enough to plan beyond their own lifetime.

That is legacy. That is a mother's strength.
Happy Mother's Day to every woman who chose to plan, protect, and provide, not just for today, but for generations to come.

If this resonates, we'd be honored to help you take the first step. Your legacy starts with a conversation.

A tremor in the hand doesn't have to mean uncertainty in the plan.

April is Parkinson's Awareness Month and for nearly one million Americans and the families who love them, this isn't just a ribbon on a calendar. It's real life. It's the conversations at the kitchen table that no one feels ready for. It's watching someone you love navigate a world that's slowly shifting beneath their feet.

Parkinson's disease changes things. Movement. Memory. Independence. And with those changes come questions that can feel impossible to answer alone.

But here's what we believe at Widlast Legal: planning isn't about preparing for the worst. It's about protecting what matters most, your voice, your choices, your dignity.

We work alongside individuals and families to put thoughtful plans in place, updated estate documents, advance healthcare directives, and care instructions that reflect who you are, not just what a diagnosis says. Because when the path ahead feels uncertain, having a clear plan can be the steadiest thing you hold onto.

If this is part of your story, or someone you love, know that you are not alone. And you don't have to figure it out by yourself.

We're here. Let's talk.
