Curious about the state of alcohol and hemp-derived product licensing? The National Conference of State Liquor Administrators Annual Meeting in New Orleans was the place to be! Member Neal Morris attended this week and brought back some interesting takeaways on the state of THC-infused drinks, which are facing steep regulatory obstacles:

1. All eyes are on November, when a federal statutory ban on hemp-derived products with specific THC thresholds takes effect, effectively eliminating the hemp-derived products industry.
2. THC-infused drinks are enjoyed by a completely open demographic in the United States – everyone of legal drinking age is a potential customer, as the drinks have mass appeal, a stark contrast between market demand and http://D.C. Policymaking.
3. The FDA won’t approve any THC-infused drinks, which continues to pose a regulatory hurdle for bringing these products to market if the upcoming ban is scrapped.

As it always is, the KET 2026 Summer Celebration at the beautiful Donamire Farm was an incredible evening of joy, friendship and – it’s right there in the name – celebration. This week, we introduce Louisville Summer Associate Jacob Westerman, back with McBrayer for a second summer. Jacob attends the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law, where he is Senior Staff Editor for the University of Louisville Law Review, a member of the Arbitration Team, and an upcoming Teaching Assistant for the Fall '26 Evidence course.

Has the time come for bathtub h***h? It may be soon, as the validity of a 158-year-old ban on home distilling might face the ultimate test at the United States Supreme Court.

As Member Neal Morris explains in our latest blog, home distillers were handed both a win and a loss in two recent Courts of Appeal decisions, setting up a circuit split that may lead to a revolution in producing distilled spirits at home.
