One of the most common concerns families have is knowing when something might not be right financially.

Sometimes, the signs are subtle.

A few things to pay attention to:

• Unusual or sudden changes in spending
• Confusion around bills or financial decisions
• New individuals becoming involved in financial matters
• Missing information or lack of clear records

These moments don’t always mean something is wrong, but they are worth paying attention to.

Awareness is one of the most important ways to help protect a loved one’s financial well-being.

Memorial Day is a time to pause and reflect on service, sacrifice, and the stories that shape our lives.

For those under guardianship, these moments of remembrance still matter. Staying connected to personal history, traditions, and meaningful experiences is an important part of dignity and care.

Our team is thoughtful about honoring what matters most to each individual, especially on days like this.

Today, we remember with respect.

When someone you love needs support, it’s not just about the decisions being made…

It’s about how they are treated along the way.

Respect. Dignity. Feeling understood.

As Sindy Cardiel, NCG shares:
“We include the individuals we serve as much as possible in their plan of care, advocate for their wishes, and maintain open communication with their loved ones so they feel supported and understood.”

In our latest blog, we share what this really looks like in guardianship and how care can be provided in a way that honors the whole person.

When it comes to financial stewardship, it’s not just about managing accounts.
It’s about people, trust, and making sure every decision reflects what matters most.

As Tina shared:
“We listen to their desires and wishes, engage in conversation, and make sure there is always an open line of communication so they feel supported and understood.”

That same care carries through every aspect of what we do, including how finances are managed and protected.

In our latest blog, we share what financial stewardship really means in guardianship and how our team approaches this responsibility with transparency and intention.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Family connection remains an important part of a person’s life under guardianship.
At Nevada Guardian Services, we prioritize working closely with families. We maintain communication, provide thoughtful updates, and include them in decisions whenever possible. In many cases, we also help reconnect families and ensure they have the information and support they need to care for their loved ones.

This approach supports continuity, builds trust, and reflects our commitment to the people and relationships at the center of every case.

Today, we celebrate the mothers and mother figures whose love, strength, and care make those connections so meaningful.

If your family has questions about the process, our team is here for you.

Proud to Serve. Committed to Care.

At Nevada Guardian Services, guardianship is more than meeting standards. It is about being there for individuals who need protection, advocacy, and thoughtful decision-making during some of the most vulnerable moments in their lives.

As the only licensed private professional guardianship agency in Nevada, we carry that responsibility with intention and integrity. Our work follows state requirements and is guided by the National Guardianship Association Standards of Practice, ensuring ethical, person-centered decision-making, clear documentation, and accountability in every case.
More importantly, it reflects what guardianship should truly be. Honoring dignity, making decisions with care and respect, and standing in the gap when someone cannot do so for themselves.

Attorneys and referral partners trust this approach because it ensures not only compliance, but compassionate and appropriate care for every individual we serve.

Aging does not reduce a person’s right to dignity, autonomy, or connection.

Guardianship supports individuals while preserving their role in decisions that affect daily life. This includes identifying the least restrictive interventions, maintaining relationships, and ensuring care reflects the individual’s preferences.

Thoughtful guardianship balances protection with independence and quality of life.

Sometimes the loudest voice in the room is not the individual whose life is being discussed.
Family members, friends, and care providers may all have strong opinions about what should happen next. Those perspectives can be valuable, but they should never replace the individual’s own wishes.

Professional guardianship exists to ensure the person at the center of the guardianship is not lost in the conversation. Their values, preferences, and independence should guide the decisions that affect their life.

As Sindy Cardiel, NCG, explains:
“A guardian’s role is to promote each person’s involvement in their care plan while advocating for their independence and personal preferences.”

Guardianship is not about making decisions for someone. It is about protecting the individual’s voice and ensuring their preferences remain central to the care planning process.

If you have questions about how professional guardians support independence and person-centered care planning, our team at Nevada Guardian Services is here to help.

When a guardian must make a decision, whose values should guide it?

Under the principle of substituted judgment, decisions should reflect what the individual would have chosen based on their known values, preferences, and life history.

This requires more than simply making a decision on someone’s behalf. Guardians take time to understand the individual, gather information from those who know them best, and consider what that person would want before making significant decisions.

The principle becomes especially important when decisions involve medical care, living arrangements, or other major life considerations.

In our latest blog, we explain how substituted judgment works in practice, particularly when estate planning documents such as advance directives or powers of attorney are not in place.
