What an incredible evening. 💙

As we reflect on this year’s Changing the Story for Victims gala, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for every person who helped make the night so meaningful and impactful.

To our sponsors, donors, board members, volunteers, community partners, and guests — thank you for standing with victims and survivors across Colorado. Because of your generosity and belief in our mission, RMvlc can continue providing free legal services, advocacy, and support to crime victims.

This evening was about more than fundraising. It was about honoring resilience, elevating survivor voices, recognizing extraordinary advocates, and reaffirming our shared commitment to a future where victims are treated with dignity, fairness, and compassion.

We are especially grateful to the survivors and family members who shared their stories. Your voices are changing systems, changing hearts, and changing the story for victims.

Thank you for being part of this community and for helping make this work possible. We could not do it without you.

Please enjoy this look back at an unforgettable evening. ✨

Today, our Executive Director, Emily Tofte Nestaval, published a powerful op-ed in Colorado Politics calling on lawmakers to reject House Bill 26-1281. The piece underscores a critical concern: policies that focus on arbitrary characteristics among victims, such as age or profession, versus offender behaviors weakens accountability and diminishes justice victims of violent crime.

At RMvlc, we stand with victims and survivors. We believe every loss and every life matters equally.

Last week, RMvlc’s Executive Director testified in support of SB26-095, a survivor-led bill that will create important changes for victim-survivors across Colorado.

Survivors know better than anyone where systems fall short. When they lead, real change becomes possible. Standing alongside survivors as they advocate for the protections and accountability they deserve is powerful.

SB26-095 passed unanimously out of the Senate Judiciary Committee!

Thank you to Senator Mike Weissman for listening to survivors and championing this bill, and to the survivors and community partners who helped make this progress possible. Colorado Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CCASA), Colorado Organization for Victim Assistance, Violence Free Colorado, and Attorney General Phil Weiser.

We will continue working until Colorado’s systems truly support, protect, and believe survivors.
