June is , a reminder that Florida employers have a legal responsibility to provide a safe workplace. If you're injured on the job, knowing your rights and taking the proper steps can help protect your Workers’ Compensation claim. Keep the following in mind:
1. In Florida, the FWCL (Florida Workers’ Compensation Law makes it mandatory for employers to participate in a workers’ compensation program.
2. Employers need to not only be aware of but address on-the-job hazards that could result in injuries to their employees. Some insurance companies recommend employers perform a job hazard analysis.
3. Employers have seven days to report an injury to their insurance company.
4. Employers need to engage with each injured employee and their medical provider to create an appropriate, job- and employee-specific return-to-work (RTW) plan that helps the injured worker transition back to their job as quickly and safely as possible.
