In honor of Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, here are a few important reminders for riders and drivers alike:
🏍️ Riders under 21 in Florida are required to wear a helmet. Riders over 21 can only ride without one if they carry at least $10,000 in medical benefits coverage.
📄 Florida does not require motorcycle insurance to register a bike, but riders can still be held financially responsible for injuries and damages after a crash.
⚠️ Motorcycle crashes are far more likely to result in serious or fatal injuries due to the lack of physical protection around riders.
👀 “I didn’t see them” is one of the most common phrases after motorcycle accidents. Double check blind spots and intersections.
↩️ A motorcycle may appear farther away than it actually is. Don’t rush turns or lane changes.
🌧️ Road hazards that are minor for cars, like rain, gravel, potholes, and debris, can be life threatening for riders.
🛣️ Give motorcycles a full lane. They are entitled to the same space and safety as any other vehicle.
❤️ We hope you never need us, but if you do, we’re here. Stay safe and ride smart.
