Congratulations to Partner Patricia Teunisse and Associate Newri Kim, assisted by Legal Assistants Sonia Gonzalez and Frances Villalobos, on securing a defense victory for Walsworth’s clients, an Orange County law firm and its attorneys.

The case involved claims arising from the settlement of prior litigation and an alleged attorney fee lien. Walsworth argued that the claims stemmed from protected settlement activity under California’s anti-SLAPP statute and that the plaintiff could not establish a probability of prevailing.

The Orange County Superior Court agreed, granting Walsworth’s special motion to strike and finding that the settlement negotiations and related conduct were protected activity. The court also found that the litigation privilege provided an additional basis for rejecting the claims.

Newri joins our Los Angeles office, focusing her practice on general liability matters. She has represented clients in a wide range of civil litigation cases involving automobile accidents, premises liability, breach of contract, real estate, and employment-related claims.

Having lived in a variety of communities and environments, Newri understands the importance of different perspectives and adapting to the individual needs of those she works with. She brings that understanding to her practice by listening closely to her clients, considering the individual circumstances behind each case, and developing practical strategies tailored to their needs.

Congratulations to Partner Jeanne Tollison on securing a complete defense victory for a California automotive dealership in an employment arbitration involving claims of disability discrimination, failure to accommodate, retaliation, wrongful termination, and wage and hour violations. The employee initially filed the action in San Bernardino County Superior Court in July 2024 before the court granted the dealership's motion to compel arbitration.

Following a two-day arbitration hearing, Jeanne successfully demonstrated that the dealership approved the employee’s leave requests, engaged in the interactive process, and offered alternative positions that accommodated her work restrictions. The arbitrator further found that the employee had been properly classified as exempt and that the evidence did not support her discrimination or retaliation claims.

In the final award, the arbitrator denied all claims and requests for damages and other relief, resulting in a complete victory for Walsworth’s client!

Walsworth attorneys Lital Ruimy and Andrew Taylor, Head of Professional Development Andrew Sohn and fall extern Kayla Long, recently represented the firm at Loyola Law School, Los Angeles’ Legal Pathways Expo: Practice Areas & Bar Associations.

The event gave students an opportunity to speak directly with attorneys about different areas of law and learn more about what legal practice looks like day to day. Lital shared her experience in toxic torts, Andrew discussed products liability, and Kayla played an important role as a student ambassador answering questions about her summer experience at the firm.

Congratulations to Partner Jennifer Morin and Senior Counsel Shahirah Ruddell on securing a defense victory for a major automotive dealership in an employment arbitration.

The employee asserted 11 claims, including age discrimination, harassment, retaliation, constructive discharge, and several wage and hour violations. Throughout the arbitration, Jennifer and Shahirah demonstrated that the evidence did not support the employee’s allegations. In the final award issued in Los Angeles County Superior Court, the arbitrator denied all claims against Walsworth’s client, bringing the matter to a successful conclusion.
