How does a jury put a number on a life? In Texas the law breaks that question into five separate pieces, and most families have never been told what they are.

Loss of inheritance reaches past the paycheck that stopped, to what the person would have built across a whole working life and left to their family. And pain and suffering covers what the person went through themselves before they died, which is a separate claim from the wrongful death claim and applies whenever someone survives the injury for a time.
