Today we recognize Juneteenth, a celebration and commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. Also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, Juneteenth marks a day in 1865 when enslaved Texans learned they would be free, two months after the end of the Civil War and two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.

We are so very excited, this is our 5th year for JUSTice Like Me!! ⚖️
Please save the date of Saturday, November 14. And if you would like to volunteer reach out, we are seeking volunteers for judges, jury, clerks, deputies, interpreters, etc.
Thank you to everyone who volunteers each year and makes this such a successful and fun program. The Prince William County schools send some of their best and brightest students and we love helping them learn.

Eid Mubarak to all who observe! Eid al-Adha, or the “Feast of Sacrifice,” is the second of two main holidays celebrated in Islam. Muslims believe that Eid al-Adha signifies the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim, known as Abraham in Christianity and Judaism, to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as ordered by Allah. It focuses on sacrifice, the pilgrimage to Mecca and giving to those less fortunate.

Happy Friday! Did a quick video on a super interesting Virginia Court of Appeals case that discusses contributory negligence and assumption of the risk the context of a student suffering a heat stroke. The questions considered is whether a 16 student athelet was contributorily negligence and/or did he assume the risk in particpating in a volunteer conditioning session knowing it was hot outside. Looking at contributorily negligence and assumption of the risk in such a context helps understand these concepts more deeply. Enjoy (FYI - I was having some technical difficulties this morning.
