Big News! We will be shifting our focus to representing you if you've been injured in a car wreck, truck wreck, medical malpractice problem or having issues with your insurance company. Please spread the word. Victims of negligence in SE OK do NOT need to find a "big city" lawyer. Find a lawyer you can see in person. We've been doing this for 25 years.

Governor extends Executive Order to all 77 counties. McCurtain and Pushmataha Counties now join Choctaw County under the Order. I've included a link to the new order from the Governor below. Specific instructions were included in a previous post. Everyone stay safe, and stay home if possible.

This post is for small business owners (that is virtually any business with less than 500 employees). This program will also be available to sole proprietorships and other self-employed individuals. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act allocated $350 billion to help small businesses keep workers employed amid the pandemic and economic downturn. Known as the Paycheck Protection Program, the initiative provides 100% federally guaranteed loans to small businesses.

Importantly, THESE LOANS MAY BE FORGIVEN if borrowers
maintain their payrolls during the crisis or restore their
payrolls afterward.

See the link below for details. This could end up being very helpful to small businesses in our community.

Some of you may or may not know that we live in the 17th Judicial District in Oklahoma. This includes McCurtain, Choctaw and Pushmataha Counties. The link below is about a week old, but is the last order we have at the moment that governs our 3 county judicial district.

Our local courts are responding in a quick and comprehensive way to this crisis, and providing quite a bit of information in this Administrative Order. For example, all civil court appearances or hearings in April have been moved to June. There is also information about pending juvenile cases, protective orders, etc. Anyone with current legal cases should review the Order carefully and/or consult your attorney with further questions.

I will continue to update our page here as additional information regarding our civil or criminal justice system becomes available both statewide, countywide, or in the 17th Judicial District. Meanwhile, please take care and stay safe.

The Oklahoma Supreme Court and Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals entered a Joint Order on March 25, 2020, that closed county courthouses to the public in all 77 counties in Oklahoma,"with exceptions for emergencies as permitted by local order." Filings are still being accepted but must be by mail. All jury terms have been canceled through May 15, 2020, as well as all deadlines, etc. The link to the Order is below.

https://www.oscn.net/news/2003271403/scad-no-202029.

I will post information regarding any local orders issued by our District Courts in Choctaw, Pushmataha, and McCurtain Counties in the near future.

The First Emergency Joint Order entered on March 16, 2020 remains in effect except as it is modified herein. To the extent the Joint Emergency Orders conflict with local practices, the First and Second Emergency Joint Orders control.

I routinely get asked questions about filing for unemployment insurance benefits. For anyone directly or indirectly affected by layoffs or who knows somebody that is, here is another site you should consult or keep handy for future use. It is operated by Oklahoma Works and provides current updates on unemployment insurance, American Job Centers, companies hiring, resources, and other workforce needs. It is an excellent resource for anyone who may be filing for unemployment or looking for work in the coming weeks.

As many of you know, Choctaw County had its first confirmed case of coronavirus (Covid-19) recognized today. This does not mean that it is time to panic. This does mean that Choctaw County will now be included in Governor's Stitt's Executive Order (which has been amended several times). Among other things, this means that all businesses not identified as being "critical infrastructure" will be closing as of midnight tonight. BUT DON'T WORRY. All of our basic needs will be exempt and remain open as critical infrastucture.

For anyone interested in the details, I've included a link to the basic Executive Order here.https://www.sos.ok.gov/documents/executive/1919.pdf

There have been a couple of amendments since March 24, and I will try to update in the coming days.

Meanwhile, our office has been contacted by many of our clients and other people wanting information about how this is affecting their case and our local courthouses. I will update here in the coming days as well.

Meanwhile, please stay calm. Don't hoard the toilet paper and disinfectant. Leave some for the next customer. There will be plenty in the coming weeks. We will make it though this, with a level head and accurate information.
