We are going to let you in on a little secret, most major insurance companies keep files on personal injury firms. They know how often a firm goes to trial, they know how they generally do a trial, and they know how hard your lawyer fights for your settlements.

The truth is this, insurance companies love it when you go to the "big box" law firms. Because these firms often focus on volume, not quality, and they work quickly to make it all happen. This means that insurance companies know they will often accept lower offers just to keep things moving.

We don't do that, we work cases the right away and always prepare a case like we are going to trial. When we tell an insurance company we will see them in court, they know we aren't bluffing.

That's the different between hiring a trial focused personal injury firm, like CGH, or hiring a settlement mill.

This might not have much to do with our normal practice area (personal injury law), but it's time we set the score straight on the greatest debate in rave history.

What is the difference between a groundscore and straight up theft?!?!?

In this video, Kevin Cheney, a personal injury attorney in Colorado and managing partner of CGH Injury Lawyers, examines the age old question "what is a groundscore?" And while the legal definition revolves around the concept of 'abandonment', the better rule to follow is "don't be a dick" and "treat people how you would want to be treated". Just because you found something on the ground, doesn't mean the original owner left it there for you.

Last week, Kevin, Travis, Jenista, and Ben headed to San Antonio for the PILMMA Super Summit, and we came back with more than ideas and notes. We came back energized.

There is something powerful about getting outside your normal environment and stepping into a room full of people who are operating at a high level. From the first session to the late-night conversations, the weekend was filled with discussions about leadership, growth, marketing, culture, and what it really takes to build something meaningful.

One of the biggest moments of the trip was seeing Kevin and CGH recognized for moving up a level within PILMMA, reflecting the incredible growth our firm has experienced over the last year. It was a proud moment for our entire team because growth at CGH has never been about becoming the loudest firm in the room. It has always been about becoming better. Better for our clients, better for our team, and better for the communities we serve.

What makes conferences like this special is not just the information shared on stage. It is the people. Being surrounded by driven, innovative leaders pushes you to think differently. You hear real stories about challenges, failures, breakthroughs, and lessons learned. You realize quickly that growth is never accidental. It comes from staying curious, staying humble, and continuing to learn.

Some of the best moments happened between sessions. Sitting around tables exchanging ideas, building relationships, and having honest conversations with people who genuinely want to see each other succeed. Those relationships matter because no one builds something great alone.

We left San Antonio grateful, inspired, and excited about what comes next for CGH. Now it is time to bring that energy home and put it to work!

The double edged sword of private equity, they may help you run a better "business" but the focus will always shift towards money.

As a firm that firmly believes it's more than money, we find this shift to be extremely alarming. We believe that lawyers have an ethical (and legal) obligation to put their clients first, not their shareholders. And this is why we are firmly against private equity in the legal field.

Mr. Pancake heard justice needed backup… so he hopped on the RTD and headed downtown to Union Station like the hero he is

From Union Station to Mission Ballroom, RiNo to LoDo, the front range to the mountains, and everywhere else, our mascot is out here fighting for the people one train stop at a time. Catch him riding through the Mile High City helping keep Colorado safe, a little weird, and always full of good vibes. 🐾💙

If you see Mr. Pancake in the wild, say hi. He’s probably on his way to fight for justice, hand out positive energy, or remind someone to get home safe after the show.

Denver, Colorado; we out here for the people. Literally.

Last week we were in San Antonio for the PILMMA convention, and somewhere between the networking, the panels, and pretending we understood the humidity, the skies opened up and absolutely unloaded on the River Walk.

One night, while walking back to the hotel, we got caught in the kind of storm that makes you immediately start calculating your escape plan. Within minutes we were soaked through, our shoes were making suspicious noises, and somebody finally said what we were all thinking: “Should we just get a Lyft back?” Because let’s be clear. We were never calling an Uber. They are evil, and we will stand by that opinion until the end of time.

But before anyone could order the Lyft, Jenista started dancing in the rain. Not casually. Fully committed. Laughing, spinning, completely unbothered by the fact that we looked like a group of drowned conference attendees wandering the River Walk after dark.

And honestly, once we saw her having that much fun, there was no way we were going to rob her of that joy. So instead of running from the storm, we leaned into it. We danced the entire way back to the hotel in a full downpour, splashing through puddles and laughing like kids who had just been let outside after being grounded for a month.

Somewhere along the walk back, all the stress, the schedules, and the nonstop pace disappeared for a minute. It was just rain, music in our heads, and the kind of happiness you forget adults are still allowed to have.

Turns out if you’re from Colorado, you never really outgrow the urge to frolic in the rain. 🌧️

The three Ds.

Delay. Deny. Defend.

This is the primary strategy of insurance companies, they know this tactic will wear down most individuals and even some law firms. The longer things take, the harder things seem, and the more excuses they give, the more likely you are to take an offer that isn't in your best interest.

Luckily, a good firm will prepare your case for trial on day one. They are built to go the distance, do work the right way, and don't flinch when the pressure is on. That's what CGH does and that's why we will always believe it's more than money, because let's be honest, it's often cheaper to do things faster, but that isn't our style.
