Today is National Gun Violence Awareness Day. I’m at a seminar where Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins just did a oublic service announcement, wearing orange (wristband) that reminds us that hunters use orange for safety, and promoted safety items ($4 and $8 gun and rifle trigger locks on Amazon, and biometric gun safes). The #1 cause of child deaths (mostly suicides) is from gun violence. Please please please be a safety conscious gun owner! Think of our children!

Happy Juneteenth!!! Yes, another federal and state holiday, and this morning on public radio I heard the moving and celebratory reading of the Emancipation Proclamation just as it was read June 19, 1965 in Galveston, Texas, to be the last group of slaves to learn they were FREE! Then I watched the beginning of the annual Walk for Freedom in Dallas, led by 97-year-old Opal Lee who was the woman who walked her way to getting Juneteenth declared as a national holiday. Truly inspiring!

Happy second Independence Day!

Interesting, and worrisome, journalism. “Forever chemicals” exceeding limits in 50 of Texas public water systems, including Dallas and Fort Worth.

I’ve read about PFAS, and a class action battle in the past. Scared me straight to stop using non-stick pans.

The EPA set its first-ever drinking water limits for five types of PFAS chemicals, and nearly 50 of Texas public water systems have reported exceeding the new limits for at least one.

Yesterday wasn’t much of a work day as Dallas area was in the totality zone of a total solar eclipse and I enjoyed every second of it! Viewing and exclaiming on the wonder and grandeur of the universe was a full body and mind experience! Today, there’s an exuberant pep in my step even though the work is down-to-earth pedestrian.
