Agentis is pleased to announce that partner Jacqueline Calderin has been appointed Initial Attorney Co-Chair of the newly established Standing Local Rules Advisory Committee for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida.

The appointment follows Jacqueline's leadership in the Court's two-year initiative to comprehensively revise the Southern District of Florida's Local Bankruptcy Rules. Working alongside Chief Judge Scott M. Grossman, Clerk of Court Joseph Falzone, and fellow attorney Jeffrey Snyder, Jacqueline served as co-chair of the committee that developed the new Local Rules, which became effective on June 1, 2026.

Following the successful completion of that effort, Chief Judge Grossman established a permanent Standing Local Rules Advisory Committee and selected Jacqueline and Jeffrey Snyder to serve as its Initial Attorney Co-Chairs. Created by Administrative Order 2026-05, the Committee will study the rules, practices, and procedures of the Bankruptcy Court and make recommendations for future improvements, helping ensure that the Court's local rules continue to evolve to meet the needs of judges, practitioners, and the public.

"Serving in this role is an honor," said Calderin. "The Southern District of Florida has one of the nation's most active bankruptcy courts, and I look forward to working with the Court and my fellow committee members to support rules and procedures that promote efficiency, fairness, and effective administration of bankruptcy cases."

Congratulations to Jacqueline on this well-deserved appointment and the opportunity to continue helping shape bankruptcy practice in the Southern District of Florida.

Agentis partner Jacqueline Calderin was recently quoted in the South Florida Business Journal and The Real Deal Real Estate News discussing two Subchapter V Chapter 11 filings involving Miami-area restaurant operator Negroni Bistro & Sushi Bar.

Representing both restaurant entities in their restructuring efforts, Jacqueline discussed how Subchapter V enables qualifying small businesses to address financial challenges while continuing operations. As highlighted in the coverage, the companies are using the Chapter 11 process to restructure debt, streamline operations, and position themselves for long-term success.

The articles also underscore the growing importance of Subchapter V as an effective restructuring tool for businesses facing financial pressure, including those burdened by merchant cash advance financing. By allowing eligible companies to reorganize while remaining operational, Subchapter V can provide a practical path toward financial stability and preserve jobs, customer relationships, and enterprise value.

The financial pressures facing Brightline have raised important questions about the challenges of financing major infrastructure projects through private capital. While the company continues to operate, its debt burden and ongoing negotiations have drawn significant attention from the restructuring and finance communities.

In an article recently published by Law360, Agentis partner Robert P. Charbonneau analyzes Brightline's situation and discusses what it reveals about debt-funded growth, capital structure, and the challenges that arise when ambitious projects encounter financial difficulties. The article explores the implications for investors, lenders, creditors, and other stakeholders facing complex financial distress situations.
