In May 2026, the Voelz, Reed, and Mount Foundation awarded Rock Steady Boxing a grant to help support programming, purchase additional equipment, and provide additional training. According to Jana Bartels, "There are more than 90,000 new Parkinson’s Disease diagnoses across the US each year and we are of course seeing the PD population grow in Bartholomew County. We also have boxers join us from many neighboring counties including Brown, Jennings and Decatur that do not offer this type of specialized class. There is no cure for this disease and the only thing proven to slow the progression is vigorous exercise.
In addition to providing exercise instruction, Rock Steady Boxing serves as a vital support system, fostering camaraderie and reducing depression and isolation. The program enables participants to maintain independence, boosts confidence, and helps fight back against the disease's progression." We are incredibly grateful to Jana, Mill Race Center, and the entire Rock Steady team for creating opportunities for seniors of all abilities in our community. Mill Race Center
