Let’s talk k**b & tube

What it is:
Old-school wiring (late 1800s–1930s) with single wires run on ceramic k**bs and through tubes.

Why I care:
It’s not built for how we live today. No ground, insulation can get brittle, and modern loads can push it.

What it means for you:
It doesn’t automatically kill a deal… but it will come up. Insurance, financing, and inspections all take a closer look.

My advice:
If I spot it, I’m calling it out early and bringing in a licensed electrician so there are no surprises.

Bottom line:
It’s a “know what you’re getting into” situation, not an instant dealbreaker.

More old stuff in the wild! This is an F.B. Jones subterranean receiver AKA an in-ground rubbish bin from the early 1900s. Produced in Somerville MA, you can find these spread across the suburbs.
