This past Sunday our team took steps together for a cause close to our hearts 💙🍂

The International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) is a cause that’s deeply important to our founder Jesse Reiter and his family. Jesse, his wife Susan, daughter Alyssa, and members of our marketing team, Janelle and Kay-Lynn, spent Sunday afternoon walking the autumn trails at County Part Farm, painting pumpkins, and listening to powerful stories of hope.

By raising awareness together, we hope to remind those impacted by OCD that their diagnosis doesn’t define them; their courage does.

Last week, our attorneys attended the Michigan Association for Justice’s 2026 Fall Convention ⚖️

It was a productive two days of continuing education and collaboration alongside over 70 expert speakers. Highlights included our firm founder, Jesse Reiter, co-moderating the Medical Malpractice seminar track, as well as a visit from some adoptable rescue puppies between sessions 🐶

Staying updated on the latest legal developments ensures we continue delivering strong, effective advocacy.

Rock, paper, scissors trend… ABC Law edition 🤜
The choice is as clear as rock vs scissors. Let us be your rock.
As parents, your time is precious. Some law firms handle birth injury cases occasionally. Others dedicate their practice to them. The difference matters. We are proud to only practice birth injury and treat each client as family, not a case number.

Remembered. Loved. Always part of the family. ❤

During Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month, we remember the babies who are deeply loved and deeply missed—and the families who carry that love with them every day.

Yesterday, our team celebrated NICU Awareness Day by lighting the office up green! 💚

Every day tiny warriors and their families fight brave battles. We’re proud to honor NICU families, celebrate healthcare heroes, and raise awareness about the challenges of neonatal care.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is essential to the survival of many sick and premature infants. However, beeping monitors, ventilators, and alarms can make it difficult for NICU babies to sleep 🔊

In addition to minimizing negative auditory stimuli through redesigning NICU layouts, hospitals can help their newborn patients by introducing initiatives to improve exposure to positive auditory stimuli.

In our blog, we will discuss therapeutic use of sounds and music in the NICU and how this can improve babies’ health💕

Finding Niko 🐠

Attorney Taylor Goodwin's son, Sonny, tapping the glass of his baby brother's incubator wondering why he's sleeping so much!

Niko spent 100 days in the NICU after being born prematurely at just 1 pound, 8 ounces. Determined to turn their experience into something positive, Taylor and Dylan created Niko in the NICU, both a children's book and a 501c3 nonprofit organization, to help other families feel less alone during their own NICU journeys.

Having a birth-injured, premature, or sick baby can lead to extreme anxiety for parents 😓 Often, this feeling becomes associated with the NICU itself, rendering it a sort of warzone in which infants fight for their lives.

For years, NICU parents have described feelings of panic, uselessness, and even guilt. They are often screened for postpartum depression, which occurs at a rate of 28-70% in NICU mothers, compared to about 16% of mothers in the general population📈

There is growing evidence that NICU parents who participate in peer-support programs experience less anxiety, stress, and depression. Because PTSD can continue or even emerge for the first time after a baby has been discharged, continued psychological care for parents during the transition to home care is essential.

Things to pack in your NICU bag to make the days a little more bearable 💚From attorney and former NICU mom Taylor Goodwin:

1️⃣ A cute, roomy bag 👜
You’ll be carrying things back and forth every single day, whether it be more items for your baby or their dirty clothes, so you might as well have a bag you love and can hold all the NICU essentials.

2️⃣ Swaddles
Swaddles for their incubator or crib can make their NICU space feel a little more like theirs. Wrap them in it or use them as bed sheets.

3️⃣ A Love Nest
Our PT recommended occasionally using a Love Nest under the baby’s head for positioning and comfort. Ask your NICU team/PT if it’s appropriate for your baby.

4️⃣ Preemie/newborn outfits + tiny hangers 👶🏼
Even if they’re in the NICU, they still deserve a little closet! There’s something so special about seeing their tiny outfits hanging beside their crib/incubator!

5️⃣ A soft newborn hairbrush
NICU babies LOVE having their hair brushed, and sometimes it’s one of the only little things you can do for them. Keababies is the best!

6️⃣ A tiny newborn hat
A little hat to make them feel extra cozy. Look for one that rolls up easily because NICU babies have the tiniest heads!

7️⃣ A custom name sign
Just because they can’t come home yet doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate them. A personalized sign for their crib makes their NICU space feel a little more like home and makes for the sweetest pictures.

8️⃣ Books to read to your baby 📖🐢
A copy of Niko in the NICU to read to your NICU baby. Even the tiniest babies deserve a bedtime story.

9️⃣ Your NICU phone number + hospital bands 📱
Save the NICU number in your phone and their business card if they have one, and keep your baby’s and/or your hospital band handy. You’ll be calling throughout the day to check on your baby, and sometimes the NICU will ask for information from the band to verify who you are. Trust me, you’ll want this information easy to find!

🔟 Snacks for Mom & Dad
NICU days are long, and hospital food can get expensive. Taking care of yourself matters, too.

NICU parents: what would you add to the list?
