Fort Valley, GA – Gunfire rang out at an apartment complex early Tuesday morning, June 16, 2026, leaving a man dead.
As reported by WGXA.tv, “[o]fficers responded to reports of shots fired at the 1100 block of Edward Street around 12:11 a.m. At the scene, they found a man suffering a single gunshot wound inside the apartment and he was rushed to the hospital by paramedics.”
13WMAZ.com is reporting, “[t]he Peach County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Evens Jean Baptiste, who had recently moved into [the Apartments] on Edwards Street. Investigators say a dispute broke out in the breezeway just outside his apartment around 12:11 a.m., and gunfire struck Baptiste as he lay in bed. Emergency crews transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.”
This is reportedly not the first act of violence these apartment residents have experienced. According to 13WMAZ.com, “[i]n 2020, a 24-year-old man was shot and killed at the complex. Two years later, a bullet struck a 13-month-old girl inside her apartment, killing her and seriously wounding her twin brother. In 2024, a 9-year-old was shot while sleeping in bed. Last spring, three people — including two teenagers — were wounded in back-to-back shootings on consecutive nights.”
The investigation is ongoing.
