Have Advance Parole? Please read this before you travel. ✈️

For many immigrants with pending adjustment of status applications, Advance Parole has felt like a golden ticket.

You applied. You got approved. And now you can finally visit family, attend a wedding, take care of an emergency, or travel outside the United States.

But the rules changed on August 13, 2026.

In Matter of Delcarmen-Lara, 29 I&N Dec. 830 (BIA 2026), the Board of Immigration Appeals changed the way certain departures from the United States interact with the three- and ten-year unlawful-presence bars.

This means that having Advance Parole does not automatically mean that travel is risk-free.

Before you leave the United States, it's important to understand how the rules apply to your immigration history.

Tracie traded Atlanta for Newport, Rhode Island, recently for the ImmLaw Fall Conference—and got a bonus experience along the way: her very first Nor’easter! 🌊❄️

Thankfully, the weather didn’t stop her from having a fantastic few days connecting with colleagues and some of the great minds in immigration law.

The conference was a chance to dig into the latest policy updates, discuss case and litigation strategies, share ideas, and talk honestly about the tumultuous landscape that immigration attorneys and their clients are navigating right now.

We’re always grateful for opportunities to learn from our colleagues and bring those conversations back to our work at Hope.

September was a BIG month at Hope! 🎉❤️

We had lots of approvals, successes, and wins to celebrate—and we are so grateful.

But what makes these wins special isn't just the piece of paper or the case outcome. It's knowing what those approvals mean for the people behind them.

Families reunited. Futures made a little more certain. Long periods of waiting finally coming to an end.

We are deeply grateful to our clients for trusting us with these journeys. It is an honor to be part of your lives and to walk alongside you through a process that can be incredibly difficult—especially in times like these.

✈️ Flying within the U.S.? If you’re an immigrant, there are a few things you should know.

For years, a domestic flight might have seemed pretty straightforward: bring your passport, Real ID, or other accepted identification, go through TSA, and get on the plane.

But recent reports of increased TSA and ICE information sharing—and immigration arrests at airports—have made domestic air travel more complicated for some immigrants.

And having a valid work permit does not necessarily mean that you have permanent immigration status or that there are no immigration issues in your history.

If you have a pending immigration case, a prior immigration court case, an old removal order, expired status, or another complicated immigration history, it is worth understanding your situation before you travel.

Last month, Tracie had the pleasure of joining Pastor Matt Koehn at Water Stone Church in Smyrna for “Curious Christians: Immigration.”

Immigration can be a difficult subject to talk about. In today’s political climate, it can feel like we are expected to immediately choose a side before we even have a chance to ask questions.

This conversation started somewhere different: curiosity.

Together, they explored questions like:

💬 What does Scripture actually say about the stranger?
💬 What do justice, compassion, and welcome look like in a complicated immigration system?
💬 How do we hold respect for the law together with our responsibility to see the human beings affected by it?

Tracie shared stories from her work, talked through some common immigration myths and realities, and had the opportunity to listen and learn alongside a community that was genuinely interested in asking hard questions.

🇺🇸 Labor Day Office Closure

Hope Immigration will be closed Monday, September 7 in observance of Labor Day.

Our team will be taking the holiday to rest and recharge, and we’ll return to our regular office hours on Tuesday, September 8.
