New work requirements for adults enrolled in Group VIII Medicaid begin January 1, 2027. How do you know if you are in Group VIII?
Medicaid Group VIII coverage generally refers to individuals covered by Medicaid who are:
• 19-64 years old
• Not pregnant
• Not disabled
• Have an income at or below 138% the Federal Poverty Line
Group VIII coverage is also known as the Medicaid Expansion Group, MAGI Adult coverage, or Ribicoff coverage. All these names refer to the same covered group and can be used interchangeably.
If you are an existing Medicaid recipient, you can check the Self-Service Portal to determine if you are in Group VIII. Follow the instructions in the attached image and look for language such as:
• MAGI Non-Disabled Adult
• MAGI Young Adult Age 19-20
• MAGI Adult Parent or Caretaker Relative*
*if you are a parent/caretaker for a child age 14 or older
Even if you determine you are part of Group VIII, you may qualify for an exemption—meaning you do not have to fulfill new work requirements. However, if you believe you qualify for an exemption, you MUST provide documentation to prove that exemption. If you do not submit documentation, you will lose your Medicaid coverage.
