Named as an executor but don’t wish to act?

If you are appointed as an executor under a Will in England and Wales, you initially have a choice about whether you wish to take up the role.

There are generally two options:
👉Renunciation – giving up your rights to act as executor completely and absolutely. This is a permanent decision, except in very limited circumstances and with the leave of the court.

👉Power reserved – stepping back from the day-to-day executor duties without permanently giving up your right to probate. This is only available where there is more than one executor and at least one is willing to act.

In either case, early decision-making is key. The decision should be made before becoming involved in the administration of the estate, helping to provide clarity and avoid future complications.

📍One last stop for our roaming lighthouse!

Our lighthouse has arrived at its final location – Mount Edgcumbe Barrow Centre.

It's been fantastic seeing our sponsored lighthouse travel across the region as part of Stlukesguidinglights art trail, and we hope you've enjoyed following its journey as much as we've enjoyed sharing it.

The trail is more than just a celebration of incredible artwork by talented local artists, it's also raising awareness and vital funds for St Luke's Hospice Plymouth, helping them continue their compassionate care and support for patients and families across our community when they need it most.

If you haven't had the chance to visit yet, now's the perfect time. Take a stroll around the beautiful Mount Edgcumbe estate, find our lighthouse painted by Mrs Murals, and discover the many stunning sculptures across the trail.

🌊 CSR is about turning good intentions into meaningful action.

One of our team members recently joined the National Marine Aquarium team for a beach clean-up, supporting their work to protect our marine environment.

As part of the day, they also carried out a beach survey, recording the types of rubbish collected at Ernesettle Creek. Plastic vending machine cups were the most common item found, alongside lots of plastic bags, a real reminder of the impact everyday waste can have on our coastlines and marine life.

For businesses, CSR is an opportunity to make a genuine difference while giving employees the chance to get involved in causes that matter. It’s about supporting the communities around us and taking practical steps towards a more sustainable future.

A great initiative and an important reminder that small actions can make a big difference.

🦁🚚 Our roaming lighthouse has gone a little wild...

It’s latest stop is Dartmoor Zoo! 📍

As a proud sponsor of Stlukesguidinglights, we're thrilled to see our lighthouse enjoying a day out with some new furry and feathery friends.

If you're heading to the zoo, keep an eye out for the lighthouses and take some time to explore the trail too. With beautifully painted lighthouses created by talented local artists and creative individuals, it's a fantastic way to discover amazing artwork while supporting St Luke's Hospice Plymouth.

If you spot ‘Mini Murals’ by Mrs Murals, we'd love to see your photos.

Can Royal Fleet Auxiliary employees make a noise induced hearing loss claim?

Many current and former Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) employees assume they can't claim compensation for hearing damage caused by workplace noise. However, while the RFA isn't classed as part of the military, employees may still be eligible to bring a standard Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) claim.

Common sources of noise exposure include:
⚓ Ship engines
✈️ Aircraft
🚛 Vehicles
🔫 Weapons training

Common symptoms include difficulty following conversations, needing to increase the TV volume, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), and sensitivity to certain sounds.

If you've worked for the RFA and are experiencing these symptoms, it's worth understanding your legal options. Our latest article explains the differences between military and civilian hearing loss claims and when you may be able to seek compensation.
