The event has raised more than £180,000 for North West Cancer Research in just two years, helping to support cancer research, education and awareness across our region.

A huge congratulations to Sergio Aguiar, who has been named a finalist for the Fundraising Hero Award at The Guide Liverpool Heroes Awards 2026. 🏆

Following the loss of his daughter, Alice, in the Southport tragedy, Sergio committed to running six World Marathon Majors in her memory, raising almost £18,000 for Alice's WonderDance so far.

Created to honour Alice’s legacy and her deep love for dance, the foundation helps fund classes, after-school programmes, uniforms, equipment, exams, competition fees and transport to classes. It also supports dance-related education and provides safe spaces where children can learn and perform.

Through this work, the foundation provides young people with a place where they feel included, valued and empowered to shine. An incredibly well-deserved recognition for Sergio and his commitment to creating a lasting legacy in Alice’s memory.

How long should you have to wait to recover your legal costs?

A recent High Court ruling has reinforced an important principle: successful parties should not have to wait until every pound of their legal costs has been assessed before receiving a reasonable payment.

In Ocorian Private Trustees (Jersey) Ltd v McGeoch [2026] EWHC 1693 (Ch), the court ordered a £106,000 payment towards legal costs within just 14 days, despite opposition from the other party.

The judge made it clear that waiting for a full costs assessment was not, on its own, a good enough reason to delay payment.

However, the amount awarded was not simply a percentage of the total claimed. The court looked closely at the evidence provided, placing greater weight on costs formally confirmed by solicitors.

The ruling offers an important reminder that clear evidence matters when recovering legal costs, and that successful parties should not be left waiting unnecessarily for money they are entitled to.

“Pushing through the darkness, still another mile…”

On Monday, 12 October, Director, Amy-Louise Brown attended Liverpool Women's Hospital Trust's annual Baby Loss Service of Remembrance at St George's Hall, Liverpool.

Organised by the hospital’s Honeysuckle Bereavement Service, the evening brought together bereaved families, healthcare professionals, volunteers, and community organisations to remember and honour babies lost during pregnancy, at birth, shortly after birth and in infancy.

Amy reflected:

“Together. That’s the word I would use to describe this evening."

“Loss can feel lonely. It can leave a space that nothing seems to fill. This evening gave people the opportunity to share, listen and connect, and to take a moment to remember their babies together. Hearing the mothers sing together in the choir was incredibly moving. Thank you to everyone who helped create such a thoughtful and compassionate evening.”

On Saturday, the Bond Turner team, Rachael Wong, Amy Brown, James Tomlinson, Chantal Rabberts, Chris Walker, Sam Walker, Rob Benn, Ken Delanney, and Alum Ullah were honoured to attend the Elsie’s Story Annual Fundraising Ball at The Grand, Southport.

The evening was a tremendous success, reflecting the generosity of everyone who attended, donated and volunteered their time to make the event possible. We were fortunate to witness first hand the dedication, compassion and determination that drives its work.

It was a special evening bringing people together to remember Elsie, and to support the amazing work being done in her memory to bring joy and support to children and families.

Jenni and David, thank you for such a wonderful evening and for everything you continue to do through Elsie’s Story. It was a privilege to be there, show our support and be part of such a meaningful occasion.

The families of Alice Aguiar, Bebe King and Elsie Stancombe have shared their hope of creating a lasting space that gives back to the Southport community, in recognition of the compassion and support shown to those affected by the tragic events of July 2024.

Their wishes are at the heart of plans for a £10 million regeneration of Southport Town Hall Gardens. The vision is to create a welcoming and accessible space where people can come together, with areas for nature, play and reflection, alongside spaces for performances and community events.

As legal representatives of the families through the Southport Inquiry, we welcome and support these plans to create a lasting space that honours the memories of Alice, Bebe and Elsie, while recognising the strength and kindness shown by the Southport community.

Today marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Breast cancer affects not only the individual but their loved ones too. Behind every diagnosis is a person, with family, friends and dreams for the future.

At Bond Turner, we’re proud to support North West Cancer Research and its pioneering work to better understand, prevent and treat cancer.

Throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’ll be using our platforms to raise awareness, share information and encourage greater understanding of breast cancer. We’ll also be taking part in a number of initiatives, while continuing our support for North West Cancer Research and its vital work.

We’re proud to shine a spotlight on our Director of Serious Injury, James Tomlinson, who has once again been recognised. This year James has been highlighted as Next Generation Partner in the Legal 500 2027 rankings.

This prestigious accolade recognises individuals who have earned significant recognition from clients and peers, alongside taking leading roles in multiple cases.

James was commended in Legal 500 testimonials which acknowledged him for being “a fantastic lawyer who takes on and wins difficult cases that many other lawyers would not”, praising his approach to ensuring clients are heard, injuries are well understood and cases are thoroughly explored.
