Going Purple for Baby Loss Awareness Week

This October, our Medical Negligence team is proud to be going purple in support of Luna’s Fund and Baby Loss Awareness Week.

Baby loss and neonatal death can have a profound and lasting impact on families. Baby Loss Awareness Week provides an important opportunity to remember the babies who are no longer with us, stand alongside bereaved families and raise awareness of the support available to them.

We are particularly proud that our colleague Helena Campbell is a trustee of Luna’s Fund, a charity supporting families affected by baby loss and neonatal death. Helena’s work with the charity reflects her longstanding commitment to supporting bereaved families, alongside her specialist medical negligence practice involving baby loss, neonatal death and birth injuries.

By going purple, we are helping to shine a light on baby loss, remember the babies who are so deeply missed and show families that they are not alone.

Erb’s Palsy Group Fun Day 2026

We were pleased to support this year’s Erb’s Palsy Group Fun Day at Wakefield Exchange, bringing families and members of the community together for a day filled with activities and opportunities for connection.

It was lovely to be there supporting the event, with Clair Hemming and Simon Mansfield helping to run the raffle, as well as welcoming new members and celebrating the support available to families affected by Erb’s Palsy.

We’re proud of our long standing relationship with the Erb’s Palsy Group and the opportunity to continue supporting the important work they do for families and the wider community.

Today, 5 October, is World Meningitis Day, and we’re highlighting the importance of raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of Meningitis.

Medical Negligence Lawyer and Meningitis Research Foundation Ambassador Helena Campbell attended Plymouth University’s Freshers’ Fair to raise awareness of meningitis among students starting university. To attend the Freshers Fair, Helena used one of her allocated Community Days where individuals can take a day out of the office to support a community or charity of their choice.

Helena spoke to students about meningitis vaccinations, recognising the signs and symptoms, and the importance of seeking urgent medical help if they or their friends become unwell. She also heard from students with their own experiences of meningitis and shared resources to support further learning.

We’re proud to support our colleagues in using their time, skills and personal passions to make a difference in their communities.

County Durham breast cancer care: further 4,500 cases to be reviewed

We were saddened to read about concerns surrounding breast cancer care in County Durham, and the decision to review a further 4,500 cases. BBC News reported yesterday that County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust has agreed to extend its review of breast cancer care to potentially include a further 4,500 cases dating back to 2015. The decision follows concerns about care provided to breast cancer patients, including delayed diagnoses and unnecessary surgery. An existing review has identified hundreds of patients who suffered harm, with some patients undergoing unnecessary mastectomies.

For patients and families who have received breast cancer care through the Trust, these developments may understandably raise concerns and questions about the care they received.

Michelle Beckett, Cancer Claims Specialist at Tozers, said:

“The concerns surrounding the care provided to breast cancer patients in County Durham are deeply concerning. Whilst it is welcome that further reviews are taking place, these investigations cannot change what has happened to those patients affected. Early diagnosis and treatment can be critical to breast cancer outcomes, and it is hoped these reviews will identify lessons to help prevent similar issues from occurring in the future.”
