Tesco Equal Pay Claim: Why Employers Should Pay Attention

Equal pay claims continue to reshape the retail sector, with Tesco now facing a major claim over alleged pay differences between store and warehouse staff.

The case is a reminder that equal pay risk is not limited to employees doing the same role. Employers should ensure pay structures are clear, justifiable, and regularly reviewed, particularly where different teams or divisions exist across a business.

Landlords: Are you ready for the upcoming changes?

The Renters’ Rights Act will reshape the private rental sector, with new rules coming into force from 1 May. Compliance is essential, with fines of up to £40,000 for breaches.

Key changes include:
• Removal of Section 21 as a route to end tenancies
• A move to periodic tenancies
• New limits on rent increases and rental bidding

Landlords will also need to provide updated documentation, ensure written agreements are in place, and review policies to meet new legal requirements.

If you are unsure what these changes mean for you, now is the time to act.

We were delighted to sponsor Tom Gilbey on Saturday.

Known online for his honesty, Tom’s straightforward nature truly rings true in person, perfectly reflecting our core value, to Tell It Like It Is.

We hosted a signing of his book Thirsty. Congratulations to our social media winners of a signed copy: Mark Jones, Maxine Hart and Richard Downham.

A pleasure to support such a prestigious event. We look forward to the next one.

Our team is taking on something entirely new this summer.

A group from Phillips Law will be skydiving for the very first time this July in support of Victoria’s Promise.

The jump takes place on Saturday 11 July at Sarum Park, Salisbury.

This is about more than the jump. It is about pushing limits, backing each other, and supporting a cause that makes a real difference.

Good luck to Kate Atkinson, Sophie Barton, Matt Blankley, Chelsea Bromley, and Sabiqa Umer, our 2026 skydive team. We will be cheering you on safely from the ground!
