Being a lawyer and a mom of three children all under five has taught me more about patience, resilience, and prioritization than law school ever could.
When I was a child, I used to proudly say that I loved multitasking. I imagined a busy, productive career, and doing many things at once. Life clearly listened very carefully.
Now my version of multitasking involves court deadlines, client calls, school drop-offs, bedtime stories, snacks, and answering emails while holding a child in one arm. It is not always balanced, polished, or easy — but it is deeply meaningful. This year I got very special presents from my children.
Motherhood has changed the way I practice law. It has made me more empathetic, more efficient, and more aware that behind every legal file is a human being carrying responsibilities, stress, and often invisible struggles.
As an immigration, refugee, and family lawyer, I work with many mothers who are rebuilding their lives in Canada while trying to create stability for their children. I understand, in my own way, the emotional weight that comes with caring for others while continuing to show up professionally every day.
This Mother’s Day, I want to recognize all mothers — especially working mothers, single mothers, newcomer mothers, and those quietly holding everything together behind the scenes.

IRCC’s “In-Canada Workers Initiative” is not a new TR to PR pathway.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has now confirmed what many were hoping would not be the case — there is no new program, no new intake, and no new pathway. What was announced is simply a decision to prioritize and fast-track certain permanent residence applications that are already in the system, particularly for workers in smaller or rural communities.

The key line from IRCC says it all: you do not need to take any action. That is not how new programs are introduced. That is how backlog management is communicated.

While everyone is focused on the absence of a TR to PR pathway, another detail deserves more attention. IRCC also released updated statistics showing that there are now close to 1.5 million temporary residents in Canada holding work permits.

At the same time, the 2026–2028 Immigration Levels Plan reduces targets for new temporary residents and keeps permanent residence admissions relatively stable.

So we now have a system where the number of temporary workers has grown significantly, new inflows are being reduced, and no additional pathway is being introduced to transition people already here.

After months of hints, expectations, and very public speculation about a potential TR to PR program, the outcome is a return to the same framework: Express Entry, PNPs, and a limited number of regional programs.

For some applicants already in the system, faster processing will be welcome. But for a large number of temporary residents watching their status timelines closely, this raises a more difficult question: if not now, then when, and through what pathway.

A great start to the work week: another Bench positive decision on a refugee claim for a Pakistani national.
Most people assume the outcome hinges on the hearing. In reality, preparation is where cases are won or lost.
At the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, hearings are recorded — but participants are not permitted to make their own audio or video recordings. We take detailed notes at every hearing, not as a formality, but as a deliberate strategy.
Those notes allow us to:
- Act quickly if a decision needs to be challenged
- Identify patterns and anticipate questions for future clients
- Continuously refine how we prepare clients before they ever join a hearing room
In refugee claims, the lawyer's role during the hearing is often limited. The real work happens beforehand, ensuring the client is ready to present their story clearly, consistently, and credibly.
That preparation is what drives results.

Уряд Канади переглядає розміри зборів за подання заяв на постійне проживання. Оновлені ставки набирають чинності для заяв, поданих починаючи з 30 квітня 2026 року.

Підвищення зборів є незначним, однак воно охоплює всі основні категорії:
▪ Право на постійне проживання: +$25 ($575 → $600)
▪ PNP: +$40 ($950 → $990)
▪ Бізнес-імміграція: +$85 ($1,810 → $1,895)
▪ Сімейний клас: +$25 ($545 → $570)
▪ Захищені особи: +$25 ($635 → $660)
▪ Гуманітарні підстави / публічна політика: +$25 ($635 → $660)
▪ Власники дозволів: +$15 ($375 → $390)

Орієнтовний розрахунок для сім’ї з 4 осіб (гуманітарна заявка: 2 дорослих + 2 дітей):

До 30 квітня 2026 року:
