Patterson Law LLP offices will be closed on September 30 in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Also known as Orange Shirt Day, September 30 honours the children who never returned home, Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities. It is also a day to reflect on the ongoing impacts of the residential school system and the work of reconciliation.

A super effort for an incredible cause!

Our Patterson Law LLP golf team and hole sponsorship volunteers had a blast taking part in this year’s superhero-themed Summer Street Scramble, all in support of the important work Summer Street does in our community.

This year’s Scramble raised more than $360,000, and we were proud to contribute close to $6,000 to that incredible total. Our team’s fundraising also earned us a spot on the Honour Roll at the reception, along with some well-earned golf towel prizes!

Thank you to everyone who supported our team, and congratulations to Summer Street, the organizers, volunteers and all of this year’s participants on another fantastic event.

We’re already looking forward to the next Scramble!

Each summer, Patterson Law LLP’s Mock Trial gives our summer law students and articled clerks a unique opportunity to step beyond the classroom and experience advocacy in practice.
Working alongside lawyers from across the firm, participants prepare and present a case in a realistic courtroom setting, testing their ability to analyze complex issues, examine witnesses, respond in the moment, and advocate with clarity and conviction.

This year, one quality stood out in particular: confidence!

The significant growth in confidence demonstrated by this year’s group was evident throughout the proceedings in their preparation, advocacy, and ability to think on their feet.

Experiences like the Mock Trial are an important part of our student program. They provide emerging lawyers with meaningful opportunities to develop practical skills, receive direct feedback and mentorship from experienced practitioners, and build the confidence that will serve them throughout their careers.

We are proud of the commitment our students and clerks brought to this year’s proceedings and grateful to the lawyers, mentors, mock witnesses, and organizers who continue to make this Patterson Law LLP tradition possible.

As another summer term comes to a close, we wish our students every success as they return to law school and continue the next stage of their legal careers.

This past Saturday, members of our Truro office were proud to participate in the Truro Pride Parade in support of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

Pride is an opportunity to stand alongside our colleagues, clients, friends, and neighbours in celebrating diversity while reaffirming the importance of respect and belonging for all. We are grateful to have team members who continue to demonstrate these values both within our firm and throughout the communities we serve.

Thank you to the organizers Truro Pride Society, volunteers, and everyone who helped make this year's parade such a meaningful celebration. And again, thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to represent Patterson Law LLP. Your enthusiasm and commitment reflected our shared belief that inclusive communities are stronger communities.

Happy Pride! 🌈

Several members of the Patterson Law LLP team, including both lawyers and law students, were pleased to attend last evening's Bench & Bar Dinner.

The event provided an excellent opportunity to connect with colleagues from across Nova Scotia's legal community and celebrate the professionalism and strong relationships that continue to define our profession.

We extend our sincere thanks to The Canadian Bar Association / L'Association du Barreau canadien - Nova Scotia for hosting another outstanding event and for their continued efforts in bringing members of the bar and bench together.
