Just a quick check-in. My Full Time Job right now is still taking care of my Dad…💕and all I can say is I’m so grateful to have been given this opportunity and time to care for him during these days🙏
This August 2025, we received the unexpected and surprising diagnosis. Just a couple of weeks after I had taken my parents and kids on a summer road trip filled with a mix of glamping and hotel stays enjoying Canadas beautiful British Columbia. Thank goodness we took the time to share in those moments!🙏
In August, my sister and niece and nephew also came to visit before we all found out. It is incredible how fast life can change.
Shortly after I started to notice a slight change in his speech. It was so slight and so faint that only someone close to him could ever stand a chance to pick it up.
Initially the doctors thought he was all fine. My dad has always been a healthy man. He was a lover of nature, swimming, hiking, biking, studying, reading, walking, religions, cultures…and work.
They checked for signs of stroke, he passed them all. He felt fine and laughed it off. Just went because I made him. We thought maybe he had a mini stroke or was about to, after all he just turned 70, so thankfully more tests got done. And that’s how we discovered…that he had a growing tumor and that likely it was cancerous and growing for some time.
I sat with him in the room when the doctors informed him he has 3-6 months to live….It is now February. And he is still around and keeping strong. Much weaker, much more fragile, and not fully the same dad that we had, but close enough. His essence still within him and we have made peace with his decision to not proceed with any surgery, though we all so hoped he would.
But every soul has their journey. And we gotta respect this. Even if it’s not what we personally want for them.
Medications have been adventures.
Radiation and Chemo have been a novelty.
And I’m hoping to still get us out to Mexico for spring break to allow him to rest after his next chemo session if he’s strong.
His body has been taking them well. And we continue on this journey.
I plan to share one more post soon. As I await other news.
