The first and only, licensed and registered Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) institution in Bangladesh

The Bangladesh International Arbitration Centre (BIAC) is a registered, not-for-profit company, established under license of the Government. Its specific objective is to assist in the process of arbitration, to resolve business disputes, by providing rules and facilities to enable arbitration to take place easily and effectively. In addition, it will hold workshops and seminars to create a better appreciation of the substance and process of arbitration. Three business associations – the International Chamber of Commerce-Bangladesh, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Dhaka are sponsoring BIAC. For the establishment of the office and for running its activities for the first three years, the IFC is supporting BIAC with funds from the UK Aid (formerly, DFID) and the EU.

𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀

The oral rounds of the BIAC-BSRM International Inter-University Arbitration Contest 2026 continued on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, with a second engaging session that brought together aspiring arbitration practitioners for a rigorous exchange of legal arguments and advocacy.

The session was held from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM (BST), featuring London College of Legal Studies (South) against the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP). Both teams demonstrated their preparation through detailed legal submissions, persuasive advocacy, and effective responses to questions from the tribunal.

The proceedings were adjudicated by Barr. Shadman A. Mostafa, MCIArb, who served as the Sole Arbitrator. Barr. Mostafa is a Barrister & Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand, a Lawyer of the Supreme Court of Western Australia, and a Digital Dispute Resolution Specialist at AOI, UK. His extensive experience in international legal practice and digital dispute resolution brought valuable expertise to the proceedings.

Following the conclusion of the oral arguments, London College of Legal Studies (South) emerged victorious, marking a strong performance before the tribunal.

The session further highlighted the Contest’s commitment to providing students with practical exposure to international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) while developing the advocacy, analytical, and professional skills essential for future legal practitioners.

The BIAC-BSRM International Inter-University Arbitration Contest 2026 now enters its most anticipated phase—where preparation meets advocacy and the next generation of arbitration practitioners takes the floor.

The BIAC-BSRM International Inter-University Arbitration Contest 2026 has officially entered its oral rounds, marking the culmination of weeks of intensive legal research, memorial drafting, and advocacy preparation by participating university teams.

The oral rounds were formally inaugurated in the presence of Ms. Ruhi Murshid Ahmed, Adviser to BSRM, and Mr. K A M Majedur Rahman, the Chief Executive Officer of the Bangladesh International Arbitration Centre (BIAC). The inauguration marked the beginning of the highly anticipated oral advocacy phase, where participating teams will put their written submissions and legal strategies to the test before experienced arbitration practitioners and legal experts.

As part of the continuing oral rounds, a session was held on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM (BST) at the University of Asia Pacific, featuring a contest between the University of Asia Pacific and Bhuiyan Academy.

The session was adjudicated by Mr. A.B.M. Imdadul Haque Khan, Dean, School of Law, Eastern University; Advocate, Appellate Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Legal Expert at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Global Maritime Crime Programme; and Legal Advisor to ActionAid and the Danish Refugee Council. Serving as the Sole Arbitrator, Mr. Haque Khan evaluated the teams’ submissions and advocacy throughout the session.

Following a rigorous exchange of arguments, University of Asia Pacific emerged victorious in the session, demonstrating strong legal reasoning, effective oral advocacy, and a persuasive presentation before the tribunal.

The Contest continues to provide a valuable platform for aspiring legal professionals to develop practical skills in international arbitration, advocacy, legal research, and dispute resolution, while strengthening the culture of arbitration among the next generation of lawyers in Bangladesh.

The Wait Is Over — The Sessions Begin!

With the submission of both the Claimant’s and Respondent’s Memorials, the groundwork for the BIAC-BSRM International Inter-University Arbitration Contest 2026 has officially been laid.

The next phase now begins as participating teams take the floor to present their oral arguments before the tribunal. After weeks of research, drafting, preparation, and rigorous legal analysis, the teams will have the opportunity to put their advocacy skills into action and argue their respective positions on the issues before them.
