The Bangladesh International Arbitration Centre (BIAC) is pleased to announce the successful completion of its international, in-person foreign training programme, reaffirming its commitment to advancing professional excellence in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution (ADR).
In collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, BIAC organized a two-day programme titled โIntroduction to International Arbitrationโ on 19โ20 April 2026 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The programme brought together legal professionals, corporate practitioners, and aspiring ADR specialists, equipping them with essential knowledge and practical insights into international arbitration. Participants engaged in dynamic sessions, case-based discussions, and interactive learning led by experienced practitioners in the field.

Participants who successfully completed the course are now eligible to:
โข Apply for Associate Membership of CIArb
โข Progress to Module 1 of the International Arbitration Pathway
โข Receive a joint certificate issued by CIArb Sri Lanka and BIAC
Course Tutors:
Mr. Amrit Rajapakse
A distinguished dispute resolution counsel, arbitrator, and legal consultant with over two decades of experience in litigation and ADR. A Fellow and Director of CIArb Sri Lanka Branch and a SIMI Accredited Mediator, he has acted in over 40 domestic and international arbitrations. He is affiliated with leading institutions such as the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center, and the Maldives International Arbitration Centre, and is recognized in Chambers and Partners Asia-Pacific rankings.
Mr. J. Shanaka L. Cooray
An Attorney-at-Law with over twenty years of experience in commercial law, arbitration, and dispute resolution. He is a Director of CIArb Sri Lanka Branch and a SIMI Accredited Mediator, with extensive experience appearing before superior courts and arbitral tribunals. He is also empaneled with the Thailand Arbitration Center and the Mumbai Center for International Arbitration, and has played a key role in arbitration law reform initiatives in Sri Lanka.
This successful initiative reflects BIACโs renewed global engagement and its dedication to capacity-building through international collaboration. The programme provided a valuable platform for participants to gain global exposure, develop specialized skills, and connect with professionals in the field of international arbitration.
